Saturday afternoon the Panthers of Imhotep Charter went into the game fresh after 3 consecutive weekends off and showed no rust as they physically dominated an undefeated Frankford Pioneers team 44-0 with all of their points coming in the first half.  The Panthers are led by 4 seniors with FBS offers including stud DL Enai White who is projected to sign with Texas A&M next month on signing day, along with 4 star DE Keon Wylie who is committed to Penn State. Both seniors are committed to play in the Adidas All-American All Star game in January. This game they both put on a clinic rushing the quarterback as well as manhandling the Pioneers offensive line as they registered sacks and tackles for losses on the Pioneer running backs. Frankford on the year had only given up only 20 points all season in their previous 10 games but the talented Panthers pounced on them from opening kickoff as the Pioneers went a quick 3 and out thanks to a sack and 2 incomplete passes. It didn’t take long for the Panthers to jump on the scoreboard after a bad Frankford punt gave them great field position at their own 49 yard line. Frankford actually made a sack on defense as they brought a corner blitz and they got to the QB for a 8 yard loss. However on the next play Tep went to their bread and butter on offense and sophomore sensation RB Tre McCleod rushed 59 yards up the middle untouched for a score. The extra point was missed making it 6-0 with 10 minutes to go in the first quarter.

On the ensuing kick off Frankford would return the kick to the 35 yard line and the Tep defense was fired up. Frankford would throw a pick to Sr. Jamir Reyes on 2nd down giving Tep offense a short field with possession at the Frankford 30 yard line. From there Frankford made a few good plays limiting Tep to short rushing gains and even forced a fumble that Tep would go on to recover. However Tep would not be denied and they would finish off the drive with Fr. QB Mikal Davis faking the handoff and rushing for a TD. With the successful 2 point conversion the score would be 14-0 after the first quarter. Frankford once again would go 3 and out and Tep would get the ball in Frankford territory at the Frankford 43 yard line. A quick hard count advanced the ball to the 38 yard line only for Tep to receive a penalty of their own making it 1st and 18 from mid field. The Panthers would get all those yards back and extra with a nice run by Fr. RB Jabree Wallace-Coleman who got 28 yards on the carry. The 2nd quarter ended up dooming Frankford as the 1st play of the 2nd quarter Tep would pretty much put the game way as Makal would find Sr. WR Rohjhii Atkinson for wide open for a TD giving the Panthers a 22-0 lead after a successful 2 point conversion. Tep would attempt an onside kick and execute it perfectly although the Pioneer faithful felt the ball never went 10 yards & their player was blocked from attempting to catch the ball. The referees decided it would be Tep ball at the 50 yard line and from there it was all Tep the rest of the first half. Tep would get a short rushing TD from Sr. Will Robinson coupled with a successful 2 point rushing score from So. QB Sybree Williams-rockeymore to push the lead up to 30-0. Frankford gained only 1 first down the entire first down thanks to a penalty on Tep and even with the penalty advancing them to the Tep 40 yard line, 1 sack along with 2 incomplete passes brought up a 4th down decision to go for it with less than 7 minutes remaining in the half or punt the ball away. They’d punt the ball away and Tep would go back to work on offense from their own 10 yard line where McCleod would gain 65 yards on 2 carries and from there Wallace-Coleman would punch it in with 4:27 remaining in the first half for a commanding 36-0 lead.. Tep would add its final score with less than a minute remaining as Mikal would add his second rushing score of the day along with a successful 2 point conversion to give the Panthers a 44-0 halftime lead.

The entire 2nd half was played under rain, wind and a running clock without much excitement. Frankford would pick up a couple 1st downs late in the 4th quarter but would fail to capitalize and score. The Panthers defense was relentless and got after the raveled Pioneers. Hats off to Frankford on a great season. They’ll move up one division to play Tep, Northeast, Olney, MLK, Bartram which should make them better prepared for big games like this. They’ll also have a huge chip on their shoulder with how they played in this game. All credit to the Tep staff and players for sticking to and executing their game plan. Some including myself thought the Panthers would be rusty and that the Pioneers having been active would give them problems but other than self inflicting penalties and missed assignments they played almost a perfect game. The Panthers now move onto the City 5A Championship game against Father Judge where they should be heavily favored. The school district has announced a restricted fan policy for all games played at School District sites. As of now this game will be played noon at the Northeast Supersite. For those with access I’d advise to check out the game.
