Ferguson also had an interception in the fourth quarter which spoiled any chance of a Mastbaum comeback. Lincoln head coach Hakeem Cooper said of Ferguson “Naseym has a high football IQ who I am so confident of that I could play at any position.” Ferguson said ; “We knew all week that they would run the football ,so that’s what we practiced on. I knew I could cheat up a little from my D-back position and help out my linebackers.” His theory paid of to the tune of 6 tackles along with 2 assists. Travell Hall notched the games most tackles for Lincoln with 8 and a TFL. Hall also recovered a fumble.

So far it’s been an historic season for the Railsplitters when they defeated long time Public League powerhouse Frankford 20-17 last weekend. It was their first win over Frankford since 1979. Cooper said they will attempt to better the feat when they face another former powerhouse George Washington next week. Although Lincoln has beat Washington a few times recently they haven’t completed the combo sweep of Frankford and Washington in the same season in what Cooper said; ” Geez, God knows how long it’s been. I know it’s well over 40 years. ” According to Cooper Lincoln is off to their best start since 2007 when the ‘Splitters finished 10-2. As far a being a run dominate team Cooper said; ” I love playing smash mouth football but if I need to showcase a highly skilled player I can implement it in my offense. He added ; “We play hard in practice and probably are the only team that hits every day.” When asked about the sophisticated or spread offense that is run today by many teams ; ” I am not a fan of it , to me it’s like playing 7 on 7 or even touch football. ” This writer couldn’t agree with him more.
