ANASTASIS VIEW ON LFC WEEK 2, AS WEATHER REEKED HAVOC LAST FRIDAY

Last week was one of the more memorable opening nights of District 2 football, As heavy weather did its work on almost every game last week, but that wasn’t going to stop players and coaches to do what they do best with that out of the way, lets look at some District 2 Rankings.

LFC

  • 1 Valley View (1-0)
  • 2 Scranton Prep (1-0)
  • 3 Old Forge (1-0)
  • 4 Delaware Valley (0-1)
  • 5 Lakeland (1-0)

WVC

  • 1 Williamsport (1-0)
  • 2 Wyoming Area (1-0)
  • 3 Crestwood (0-1)
  • 4 Wilkes Barre (1-0)
  • 5 Valley West (1-0)

Now let’s make some picks starting with my game Friday Night.

DALLAS (0-1) at VALLEY WEST (1-0)

Friday 7.00 PM

Dallas played a competitive first half against top-ranked Valley View last Friday but saw that success fade in the second half, Mountaineers Quarterback Jackson Wydra was 13 for 20 with 108 yards last Friday. Valley West put a clinic on West Scranton last week en route to a 50-6 blowout Sophomore Running Back Isaiah Cobb ran for 103 yards and 2 touchdowns, while first-year starter Luke Buss had 2 touchdowns the defense also had 2 interceptions by Defensive backs Connor Olisewski and Ryan Myers. Overall, this should be a competitive game, Dallas won the last meeting 48-12.

PREDICTION VALLEY WEST 28, DALLAS 17

 

NORTH POCONO (1-0) at WESTERN WAYNE (1-0)

Friday 7.00 PM

These two teams’ defenses shined last week the Trojans gave up zero points, 95 total yards of offense and forced 5 turnovers in their dismantling of Pittston Area, On the other hand, the Wildcats gave up just 2 points to Dunmore which was unexpected. ARMY commit Caden Brunguard got hurt last Friday, leaving Luke Janiszewski to be the primary back as he went for 174 yards and 2 Touchdowns. North Pocono showed an array of weapons last Friday Quarterback William Soma had 3 total touchdowns 2 through the air and 1 on the ground and Michael Blaine had 108 yards and a touchdown this should be a back and forth game between these two.

PREDICTION WESTERN WAYNE 28, NORTH POCONO 17

 

DUNMORE (0-1) at OLD FORGE (1-0)

Friday 7.00 PM

It was vice versa last week two unexpected things happened Dunmore’s offense scored 2 points last Friday against Western Wayne the last time Bucks failed to score a touchdown before that was 2018 against Scranton Prep. And the Devils defense gave up 29 points to Mid Valley and at one point were trailing both teams will be playing with a chip on their shoulders after Friday Old Forge Quarterback James Sobol was a near-perfect (6-7)throwing ball and ran for 150 yards and 2 touchdowns, But the Devils haven’t beat Dunmore since 2013.

PREDICTION OLD FORGE 27, DUNMORE 14

 

WEST SCRANTON (0-1) at WALLENPAUPACK (1-0)

Friday 7.00 PM 

The Invaders are on a 12 game losing streak and haven’t won a game since they beat Lakeland in 2019 despite them winning a scrimmage against it did not translate over last Friday as they yet again suffered defeat to fifth-ranked Wyoming Valley west 50-6 Joe Harris had there lone score of the game and Amir Robinson led the team in rushing yards with 33, The Buckhorns, on the other hand, looked good last week beating rival Honesdale 41-6 Senior Running back Shadrak Agyei had 193 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns and T.J Schmalze had 4 catches for 73 yards and a touchdown.

PREDICTION WALLENPAUPACK 45, WEST SCRANTON 7

 

DELAWARE VALLEY (0-1) at VALLEY VIEW (1-0)

Friday 7.00 PM

The Warriors are coming off a 26-10 Loss to the fourth-ranked Class 5A team in the state Gateway, who has multiple high-level Division 1 recruits, Running back Joe Sciascia played very well he finished with 78 yards and a touchdown, despite giving up 26 points they played an impressive second half and giving up less than 30 points to a team like Gateway is impressive. The Cougars showed why last week why they are ranked number 1, they had a lethal rushing attack against Dallas Quarterback Adam Howanitz and Running back Connor Hilling combined for 259 yards and 4 touchdowns expect the scoring to start early Friday night the Cougars haven’t been Del Val since 2011.

PREDICTION DELAWARE VALLEY 28, VALLEY VIEW 24

 

SCRANTON PREP (1-0) at SCRANTON (0-1)

Friday 7.00 PM

Scranton jumped out to 13-0 over fourth-ranked Wilkes barre, but that lead diminished quickly Arvel Chandler and Charlie Thompson both had rushing touchdowns, the Knights showed had fast they can score the ball there ball carriers are fast and explosive, the Knights haven’t played Prep a lot in recent years, but their last win was in 2015. Speaking of Prep they did what there were expected to do, they ran the ball all over Nanticoke London Montgomery had 144 yards and 4 touchdowns in the first half and Robert Rossi started where he left off with another touchdown.

PREDICTION SCRANTON PREP 42, SCRANTON 0

 

HOLY REDEEMER (0-1) at MID VALLEY (0-1)

The Royals fought hard and exchanged scores all morning with Holy Cross but lost a heartbreak 34-28 Quarterback Jacob Hunter had 241 yards and 2 touchdowns and Wide Recover Zach Perta had 7 catches for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns those 2 are a dangerous duo, Mid Valley learned a lot in a loss to Old Forge and that’s there a legit team, no one saw them scoring 29 points on the third-ranked Class A team in the state and at one point in the game they were up Devin Ayala had 175 yards and 2 touchdowns and Kyle Marcinkevich had 3 catches for 73 yards and 2 touchdowns.

PREDICTION MID VALLEY 42, HOLY REDEEMER 13

 

LAKELAND (1-0) at LACKAWANNA TRAIL (1-0)

Friday 7.00 PM

This is another game that has the potential to be a game of the year contender Lakeland is coming off a 41-12 win over Lake-Lehman, Quarterback Dominico Spataro threw for 236 yards and 4 touchdowns, Kevin Snyder and Lacota Dippre combined for 5 catches 143 yards and 3 touchdowns. Lackawanna Trail is coming off a 28-0 win over Carbondale and did what they do best to perfection ground and pound, the Lions rushed for 281 yards against the Chargers led by Kody Cresswell who had 106 yards and a touchdown, and Hunter Patterson who had 85 yards and a touchdown.

PREDICTION LAKELAND 23, LACKAWANNA TRAIL 21

 

HANOVER AREA (0-1) at SUSQUEHANNA (0-1)

Saturday 1.00 PM

Both teams enter 0-1 somethings gotta give, Hanover was picked apart last week by Athens 44-6 Quarterback Christian Torres showed some promise as he was 6 of 14 with 48 yards and a touchdown Kyle Cook promised a change in the offense and fared well despite a 21-20 loss to Riverside that was  the most balanced I’ve seen the sabers offense in a while Jesse DeLousia ran for 122 yards and Quarterback Colton Stone had 3 total touchdowns 2 through the air and 1 on the ground.

PREDICTION SUSQUEHANNA 28, HANOVER AREA 6

 

HONESDALE (0-1) at ABINGTON HEIGHTS (1-0)

Saturday 1.00 PM

Honesdale definitely has a talented roster, they ran into a wall last week they couldn’t get over in Wallenpaupack Connor Schmitt ran for over 100 yards once again and Kage Southerton did his thing with 3 catches for 15 yards the Hornets have the potential to shock some teams, but Abington Heights shocked many they didn’t look like a team that missed all of last year they shutout Tunkhannock while putting up 16 points, Quarterback PT Cutrufello threw for 123 yards and a touchdown and Nick Dreamer had a touchdown and a interception.

PREDICTION ABINGTON HEIGHTS 35, HONESDALE 14

 

CARBONDALE (0-1) at HOLY CROSS (1-0) 

Saturday 1.00 PM

Holy Cross snapped a 13 game losing streak when it beat Holy Redeemer last Saturday Logan Tierney rushed for 242 yards and 3 touchdowns, Gavyn Grems recorded a interception and a touchdown it was a huge win for the program it was the most points they scored in a game since 2015, Carbondale’s return wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows like Holy Crosses was they had to play the always good Lackawanna trail and lost 28-0 and really couldn’t generate any offense but Saturday s a very winning game and expect running back Vinny DePalma to shine its DePalama vs Tierney who you got ?
