BERWICK- Expectations are always high down in the hamlet of Berwick come the beginning of the new football season, and this year is no exception. Friday night at Historic Crispin Field, The Bulldogs got the 2018 year off to a fabulous start with a 42-0 drubbing of visiting Abington Heights.
Led by Junior Teagan Wilkes and a dominate offensive line, the Bulldogs built a 21-0 lead with Wilk scoring twice once from 33 yards out and then catching a 7 yard scoring pass from quarterback Alex Force. Wilk had a 97 yard punt return nullified by a illegal block. Owen Shoemaker added a 12 yard score in the first half. Wilk also had a huge interception on the goal, thwarting a Comet drive in the second half.

The second half started with more fireworks for the home team as Freshman sensation Aiden mason took the kickoff 96 yards to paydirt extending the lead to 28-0. Mason also had a 17 yard score in the fourth quarter and Peyton Williams closed out the scoring with an 8 yard run with 1:30 left in the contest.
“Our defense was tremendous tonight.” Stated elated Berwick coach Fran Sheptock said after the game. “We gave up some plays early on, but we hung in there and got better as the game went on.” He concluded.

Abington Heights quarterback George Tinsley, threw for nearly 160 yards completing 17 of 28 passes in the process, while Berwick’s signal caller Force was 7 for 10 for 99 yards and the one score to Wilk.
Berwick(1-0) will now host Pittston Area on Friday night. Pittston, defeated Nanticoke 28-21 on the road. Abington Heights (0-1) will host Valley View Saturday afternoon at “The Pit”. Valley View comes off a 27-14 win over Wallenpaupack
