The Crestwood Comets have a straightforward path to win the District 2 4A regular season championship. Beat the Bulldogs at Crispin Field, then close it out against North Pocono at home. They got half the battle tonight against the Berwick Bulldogs.
Crestwood entered the Friday night matchup at a impressive 7-1 record and atop the Wyoming Valley Conference. The Comets have been through the ringer this year with their schedule. With notable wins over Valley View, Wilkes-Barre, Hazleton, Wyoming area, and now Berwick. It is no secret what the Comets what to establish in the game. Coming into Friday Night, Crestwood had only attempted 5.3 passes a game. They clearly play a game that your grandad would be proud of.
On the Berwick side of the spectrum, it has been up and down for the dawgs. Last week would be classified as a down, as Berwick could not get anything going whatsoever as they were shut out 35-0 to Danville. But the optimism was present for the 4-4 Bulldogs. After all, they have experience pulling upsets at home when they took down Dallas 39-22 a few weeks ago.
Both of these teams can light up the scoreboard, they did just that. In a game that had over 75 points scored in it, there is plenty to talk about.
The game got started early with a rushing Touchdown. Scores on the ground for Crestwood was the theme Friday night. On the opening score it was Noah Schultz, one of the leaders in the Wyoming Valley Conference in total points scored. He took a direct snap all the way to the house. Early in the first it was the Comets of Crestwood 7-0.

In what has been a trend in the ladder weeks, Berwick QB Matthew Lonczynski used his legs to find the Endzone. He pushed the pile on this play to even up the score.

This would be the closest Berwick would get to the lead. A pair of QB runs of their own for Crestwood made it 21-7 early into the second quarter. Jaden Shedlock, a freshman, scored both for the Comets.

The Bulldogs had a slimmer of hope, when Rowan Slabinski and Spencer Kishbaugh broke free for two long scores. The closest Berwick got was 35-21.
By the time RB Noah Schultz and QB Jaden Shedlock scored for Crestwood, it had gotten to a 49-21 ball game. At that point the fat lady had sung and the game was out of reach. Crestwood would get a garbage time score to finish this game at a mercy rule, 56-21.
The Comets had a staggering 41 rushing TDs, entering Friday. That number eclipsed the 45 mark with the total domination on the ground for Crestwood. It is what got them to 7-1, they want to pound the rock again again and again.
Berwick was able to go downfield for two scores, but also had their fair share of mishaps on said deep throws. From drops and picks, it was overall was not so pretty down the field. By the time it was 28-7 at half, the energy had been both sucked out of the stands and on the field.
The misdirection in the backfield was stellar tonight for Crestwood. It seemed like time and time again Berwick was fooled at who had the ball out of the backfield.
Crestwood also had a plethora of shifts in their bag of tricks, multiple tight ends and receivers flipping sides and catching the Bulldogs jumping. Berwick was killed with offside and encroachment penalties on crucial downs. And when Crestwood got a break with those penalties they took advantage.
All in all, back to back blowout loses to quality opponents for Berwick. Crestwood continues to make quick work of quality opponents on their road to a WVC championship
