Back in April, Delaware Valley linebacker Jason Henderson dropped a bomb on twitter and announced 12 division 1 offers within 2 days. That list continued to grow and it swelled to over 24. Friday he put a period at the end of that list when he announced he was committing to the program at Old Dominion.

We asked him about his decision:

PFN: How long have you played football?

Jason: I’ve played sense the 5th grade

PFN: Why did you choose to commit to the Monarchs?

Jason: I chose ODU because I’ve been able to build a great relationship with coach rahne and some of the other coaches. I feel strongly that the monarchs are an up and coming program and I’m excited to contribute to that. Also really like the location of campus as well as campus itself and will still receive a quality education!

PFN: Why commit early/commit to them?

Jason: Due to Covid-19 there were a lot of opportunities that I was missing throughout the process and because of that things were very different and it was just the moment that I felt comfortable with making my decision that led to it being so early.

PFN: Who was your biggest influence at Old Dominion, who recruited you?

Jason: Coach Rahne, coach Seiler, and coach Rhino were the main coaches that were recruiting me but I was very fortunate to have met coach Rahne a few times more!

PFN: What are they getting in player like you?

Jason: Someone who loves to compete and is passionate about the game. Also someone who is very physical and striving to get stronger and faster every day!

PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?

Jason: In the beginning it was slow but started picking up very quickly which made it very stressful at times but as I narrowed down my schools things calmed down again and it was a very humbling experience for me

PFN: How did the Covid 19 pandemic affect your decision?

Jason: It created numerous challenges with not being able to take official visits and not being able to meet coaches and build in person relationships and forced me to rely on instinct and gut feeling.

PFN: What position were you recruited for?

Jason: Linebacker

PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?

Jason: kinesiology or criminal justice but might go undecided

PFN: What role did your parents play in your decision?

Jason: I was always able to go to them for advice. They helped me sort things out with the pros and cons of each school but they understood that it was ultimately my decision and I knew they would support me throughout!

PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the  ODU program?

Jason: The young coaching staff and also the new coaching staff because it excited to see what this program can turn out to be under coach rahne

PFN: What are you most looking forward to while playing for the  Monarchs?

Jason: The on and off the field relationships with the coaches and teammates and building life long lasting bonds!

PFN: Tell everyone out there in the football world something they’d never know about you until you told them:

Jason: I’m very sensitive and value emotional commitment and family

PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?

Jason: Coach olsommer because he has always believed in me and pushed me to be my best

PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school teammates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?

Jason: I feel like everyone expected me to take the Syracuse offer being they are a power 5 program but my coaches and family helped me not get caught up in the name but get caught up in all the other deciding factors and just simply thank everyone who’s ever played ball with me or coached me for always pushing me to be the greatest I can be and I hope we get a season this year!
