Kotsko’s View: Home debuts and Big games loom in the WVC

After a dry summer, was anyone hoping that we could end up with a few more dry days? Well, after three straight days of rain, we are finally getting a break and just in time as we head into this Friday with some interesting matchups. Wilkes-Barre Area opens up their new stadium on Friday night. Hazleton Area and North Pocono face off in a matchup of 2-0 teams. Some teams are looking to improve on their record and get better each week. With all that being said, let’s get into the games for Week 3!!!

Nanticoke at Lackawanna Trail

Fri 7 PM

Nanticoke is coming off a loss to Old Forge. Lackawanna Trail is coming off a road win at Lake-Lehman. Trojans junior RB Zach Fox ran for 76 yards and a touchdown last week. Lions RB Lukas Gumble rushed for 72 yards and two touchdowns in the victory. Nanticoke ends their three game road trip this week as they head home in Week 4. Lackawanna Trail comes in undefeated at 2-0. Will the Trojans end the road trip with a 2-1 record or will Lackawanna Trail improve to 3-0 on the season?

Prediction: Lackawanna Trail 28 Nanticoke 21

Wyoming Area at Crestwood

Fri 7 PM

Wyoming Area is coming off a shutout loss to Honesdale. Crestwood is coming off a road loss at Dallas. Warriors RB Aaron Crossley recorded 118 rushing yards last week. Comets RB Noah Schultz ran for 88 yards and returned a punt for a score. Both teams are coming in with 1-1 records and both teams come in coming off losses in Week 2. What team will come into Week 3 at 2-1?

Prediction: Crestwood 28 Wyoming Area 21

Lake-Lehman at Scranton Prep

Fri 7 PM

Lake-Lehman is coming off a loss to Lackawanna Trail. Scranton Prep is coming off a victory against West Scranton. Black Knights QB Gavin Wallace threw for 136 yards and a touchdown last week.  In last week’s game against West Scranton, Cavaliers RB Quenten Palermo rushed for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Lake-Lehman is looking for their first win of the season. Scranton Prep is looking to get to 2-1 on the season. Which team will prevail in this matchup?

Wallenpaupack at Wilkes-Barre Area

Wallenpaupack is coming off a loss to Hazleton Area. Wilkes-Barre is coming off a victory at Abington Heights. Buckhorns QB Drew Kiesenahl threw for 96 yards in the loss. Wolf Pack junior RB Mehki Nelson rushed for 216 yards and a touchdown in the victory. Wilkes-Barre Area is looking to christen their new home with a victory but Wallenpaupack is looking to play spoiler. Which team will come out on top?

Holy Redeemer at Tunkhannock

Fri 7 PM

Holy Redeemer is coming off a victory over Holy Cross. Tunkhannock is coming off a win against Hanover Area. Royals RB Josh Wesneski rushed for 136 yards and four touchdowns in the victory at home. Tigers RB Tenzen Lewis rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns in the victory. Both teams come in with a 1-1 record. Only one will leave with a victory. Which team will prevail in this matchup of 1-1 teams?

Prediction: Tunkhannock 35 Holy Redeemer 14

North Pocono at Hazleton Area

Fri 7 PM

North Pocono is coming off a close victory against Western Wayne. Hazleton Area is coming off a road win at Wallenpaupack. Trojans QB Noah West threw for 181 yards and a touchdown. In the game against Wallenpaupack, QB Tyler Wolfe threw for 285 yards and six touchdowns. He also added a rushing touchdown. After having their first two games on the road, Hazleton Area comes in with a 2-0 record and welcome in undefeated North Pocono. One of these teams will leave Hazleton with a loss. Will the Trojans take the victory or will the Cougars win on their home field?

Valley West at Pittston Area

Valley West is coming off a loss to Scranton. Pittston Area is coming off a loss at Williamsport. Spartans QB Lucas Zdancewicz threw for 177 yards with a rushing touchdown. Patriots QB Drew DeLucca threw for 165 yards and a touchdown in the loss last week. Both teams are looking for their first win of the season. With six 5A teams vying for 4 playoff spots, a win here could be big at the end of the season. Which team comes out on top in this matchup?

Prediction: Pittston Area 21 Valley West 14

Hanover Area at Carbondale

Fri 7 PM

Hanover Area is coming off a loss to Tunkhanock. Carbondale is coming off a loss to Lakeland. Hawkeyes QB Christian Torres threw for 174 yards last week against the Tigers. Chargers RB Jonathan Orta rushed for 44 yards and a touchdown. He also had four catches for 31 yards. Hanover Area is looking to rebound after the loss last week. Carbondale is looking for their first win of the season.

Dallas at Williamsport

Fri 7 PM

Dallas is coming off a victory at home against Crestwood. Williamsport is coming off a home victory against Pittston Area. Mountaineers QB Brady Zapoticky threw for 150 yards and two touchdowns in the victory. Millionaires RB Nasir Hennigan rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns in the victory. Dallas is looking to stay undefeated as they take the long trip to Williamsport. The Millionaires are looking to build on their victory last week.

Prediction: Dallas 28 Williamsport 21

Berwick at Abington Heights

Berwick is coming off a tough loss to Valley View. Abington Heights is coming off a loss to Wilkes-Barre Area. Bulldogs RB Bo Sheptock rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown last week. He also added two catches for 85 yards and a touchdown. Comets wideout Jack Burke recorded 4 catches for 138 yards and a touchdown. Both teams are looking for their first win of the season. Which team will leave The Pit on Saturday afternoon with a victory?

Prediction: Berwick 28 Abington Heights 14
