Lakeland TE CJ Dippre had plenty of offers to choose from, and he was looking forward to the summer camp tour to increase those choices. Bowling Green, Boston College, Kent St, Akron, Uconn, Virginia, Temple and more offered the talented Lakeland tight end. Then came the lockdowns of Covid-19. Schools shut down, college campuses closed and the NCAA took unprecedented steps, extending the recruiting dead period through June, all but wiping out the June camp season.  CJ, though, had seen enough and built the relationship he needed.  Today he announced his college of choice would be Maryland.

We caught up with CJ and asked him about his decision:

PFN: How long have you played football?

CJ: I’ve played football for 10 years and had my dad coach me all throughout my peewee years.

PFN: Why did you choose to commit to the Terrapins?

CJ: I chose to commit to the university of Maryland because I love the entire coaching staff especially the Te coach coach Miller and know he’ll be more than a coach to me.

PFN: Why commit early?

CJ: I chose to commit early bc I don’t believe visiting and camps will be going on in June and July so there would be no point to wait if I knew where I was going the whole time.

PFN: Was it tough going at first on the recruiting trail being from a small school?

CJ: It was 100% tough to come out of a smaller area and school especially with the jealously and wanting to see failure out of you.

PFN: Who was your biggest influence at Maryland, who recruited you?

CJ: The biggest influence at UMD is the Te coach miller for being real with me.

PFN: What are they getting in player like you?

CJ: Maryland is getting a hard worker and someone who will do anything to be the best he can be and someone who knows what it’s like to lose and be in the trenches.

PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?

CJ: The recruiting process was awesome and I’m very blessed that I had the opportunity to be part of it.

PFN: How did the Covid 19 pandemic affect your decision?

CJ: Covid-19 did interfere my career not just in football but in track. I’m trying to be an early grad so I missed my last track season.

PFN: What position were you recruited for?

CJ: Being recruited to be a TE

PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?

CJ: want to study sports management

PFN: What role did your parents play in your decision?

CJ: My parents were a huge factor in my decision making process

PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?

CJ: The person that had the biggest influence on me and my football career is my father.
