This past Saturday at Hero’s Grove in Harrisburg, Joe Gilloway of Linglestown Gazette Sports and Billy Splain, owner of PAFootballnews.com, welcomed coaches and other prominent figures involved with high school football from around the state to enjoy some great food, play some “cornhole” and talk about the upcoming season. Neil Renaldi captured the day in pictures and we are happy to share those photos with you.
Gilloway and Splain were joined by media personalities Alex Cawley and Andy Kalista from Fox 43 sports, reporter Tom DeMartinot and PFN reporter Pat Weider.
The show fired out of the gates with Julie Walker from the Peyton Walker foundation who discussed the importance of heart health. She was followed by PSFCA/BIG 33 Executive director Garry Cathell who talked of the difficulties and challenges the coaches and Big 33 had and what we can look forward to in the future. Perhaps one of the most anticipated interviews came when Dr. Robert Lombardi, the Executive Director for the PIAA joined the show. Lombardi talked about the hard work and pride he has in his staff and medical board who were instrumental in getting the 2020 football season played. He also talked about how the state has a referee shortage and what can be done to help increase the number of striped officials for sports in PA.
What followed was 4 hours of great interviews and fun with a great list of high school football coaches and players from throughout the area. Below is a list of coaches who took part in the show. Unfortunately North Schuylkill coach Wally Hall and Williams Valley coach Tim Savage we unable to make the event due to family issue and illnesses. We hope everything is ok for them today.
