Coming into the game Friday night without six of their starters, Nanticoke area knew it was going to be an uphill battle to knock off Lackawanna football foe, Western Wayne.
With a solid, dominating offensive line the Wildcats running attack had it’s way all night in posting a 35-7 victory before a subdued crowd at Frank Chicknoski Memorial Stadium.
Behind quarterback Dylan Walck and running back Kobe Sauter and the “o” line, they made short work of the over-matched Trojans.

Walck, filling in for starter Matt Valanda, rushed for 122 yards on just 11 tallies with two touchdowns and also completed 2 of 3 passes for 36 yards. He scored the initial touchdown on a bruising 20 yard run, bulldozing several Trojan defenders on his way to giving his team a 7-0 lead barely 2 minutes into game. Sauter, who rushed for game high 131 yards and 3 touchdowns scored on the Wildcats second possession, as he gashed the middle of the line to a 74 yard score just five minutes gone.

Western Wayne’s efficiency continued into the second quarter as Sauter and Walck found the end zone on short runs of three yards by Sauter and Walck scoring from a yard out as time expired making the score 28-0 at intermission. Nanticoke was out gained 275-49 in the half.

“The offensive line were amazing tonight. i give them all the credit,” Walck said. “They really stepped up, I feel so confident playing behind them. I played some quarterback last year, but this was my first time starting. I love being the leader of this team.”

Western Wayne put the game into “mercy rule” as Sauter slammed his way in from 9 yards out making it 35-0. capping a 65 yard 10 play drive. Nanticoke did avoid the shutout as Joe Ammons’ scored on a sweep to the outside on his way to a 43 yard score.

“We had to take care of some housekeeping issues, and missing those six starters really hurt us tonight” Trojan coach Ron Bruza said. “It hurt us up front because we had to play some kids who weren’t varsity ready.”

Western Wayne now 4-1 will host 4-1 Lakeland next Friday. The Chiefs trounced Mid Valley 42-0 Friday. Nanticoke 2-3 will now try to regroup, as they get set to play at Crestwood next Saturday night. The Comets dropped a 49-28 decision to Williamsport.
