Wyoming Area goes to 4-0 with victory over Nanticoke

Early in the first quarter, it looked like the game could end up being a defensive battle but Wyoming Area scored two touchdowns in a minute span in the first quarter as the Warriors went to 4-0 with a 35-6 at home over Nanticoke. Anthony DeLucca threw three touchdowns on the game “He’s been steady and consistent and that’s the kind of stuff we need to balance out our offense out.” said Wyoming Area head coach Randy Spencer.

The first three drives ended up being three and outs until Wyoming Area got returned a punt to the 14 yard line. After a loss of two on first down, Aaron Crossley scored from 16 yards out to make it 7-0 with 5:10 remaining in the first quarter. The Warriors got a fumble recovery and returned it to the Nanticoke 22 yard line. Only took one play as Anthony DeLucca found Kevin Wiedl for a 22 yard score and a 14-0 lead with 4:12 to go in the first.

The Trojans got a big kick return by Treston Allen to the four yard line. However, penalties ended up hurting the Trojans as they faced  fourth and goal at the seven yard line. Seth Raymer got sacked by Crossley to give Wyoming Area the ball back. At the start of the second quarter, the Warriors punted the ball back to Nanticoke and the Trojans ended getting turned over on downs. First play after the turnover on downs, DeLucca found Lidge Kellum for a 49 yard touchdown and a 21-0 Warrior lead with 6:48 to go in the second quarter.

Nanticoke started at their own 25 and got into Wyoming Area territory. However, they faced a fourth and 11 at the Warrior 46 yard line. Raymer found Gavin Turak to the 19 yard line. They made it first and goal with 11 yards on two plays by Allen. They faced a fourth and goal at the five yard line but Raymer’s pass fell incomplete as we hit halftime.

Wyoming Area started with the ball but went three and out. The Trojans got great field position at the Warriors 46 yard line on the punt. However, they faced a fourth and seven. Raymer went to Jaidyn Johnson for 24 yards. Two plays later, Raymer scored from four yards out to get Nanticoke on the board at 21-6 wih 3:41 remaining in the third quarter.

The Warriors gave the ball to Crossley five times on the drive and finished the drive with his second touchdown of the game from five yards out to make it 28-6 with 3:41 left in the third quarter. Nanticoke got the ball at their own 40 yard line. Second play of the drive Mykal Julian ran for 12 but they faced a fourth and 9 at the Wyoming Area 47 but Raymer’s pass went incomplete and Wyoming Area took over on downs.

The Warriors took over and drove down the field as the third quarter came to an end. First play of the final frame, DeLucca found Michael Crane for an 18 yard touchdown and a 35-6 advantage. Nanticoke went on their next drive and finished it with a three yard touchdown run by Treston Allen to make it 35-13 Wyoming Area with 6:57 left in the fourth. The Warriors cruised from there and took a 35-13 victory at home over Nanticoke. The Warriors go to 4-0. The Trojans fall to 1-3 on the season.
