Division 1
Teams In Section:
Central York, York High, Spring Grove, Dallastown, South Western, Red Lion, Northeastern
Teams to beat for Section Title:
York High– Coach Stoner’s squad has been improving each year and are bringing back West Virginia commit Jaheim White. Quarterback Sam Stoner (son of the head coach) is also returning and dragging along a host of D1 offers including Towson, St Francis, Southern Utah St. Along with several other returning players. York High has had lots of success, but still is chasing a section title for the first time in a long time.
Central York– Gone is Beau Prebula PSU commit, but Central York is trying to reload and keep the section title. Led by Juelz Goff, a rising junior who is gaining Division 1 looks, Central York is trying to maintain the section 1 title.
Sleeper Teams:
Dallastown– Led by Pitt commit WR Kenny Johnson Dallastown is trying to make a section 1 with 1st-year head coach Levi Murphy. Dallastown has not had a dominant season in a while but brings back a good Senior class.
Players to watch in Division:
Jaheim White RB York High (West Virginia Commit)
Kenny Johnson WR Dallastown (Pittsburgh Commit)
Andrew Osmun QB Spring Grove
Carson Trone Safety South Western
Ajani Walker RB Central York
David Perry OT Northeastern
Michael Scott WR Dallastown
New Head Coach in Division:
Levi Murphy of Dallastown. Murphy takes over for Ron Miller after Miller stepped down in the off-season. Murphy spent last year on staff as the offensive line coach. The former Dover stand out is also a Social Studies teacher at Dallastown.
Kirby Brubaker of Northeastern. Brubaker takes over for Jon Scepanski who left for the Conestoga Valley head job after 9 years of leading the program. Brubaker is a teacher in the district and has spent the last 5 years as Defensive Coordinator so he was a natural choice to replace Scepanski.
Will Thompson of Spring Grove. Thompson takes over for Kyle Sprengle who stepped down to spend more time with his family after a 7 year run as a head coach. Thompson comes from Francis Scott key where he was head coach the last 3 years.
Division 2
Teams In Division
West York, Eastern York, Kennard-Dale, Dover, New Oxford, York Suburban, Susquehannock
Teams to Beat for Section Title
New Oxford- The Colonials bring a lot of experience back to a team that lost in the first round of Districts last season. With the likes of Riley Killen, Brittyn Eakins and Evan Shriver and a roster of over 60 players, expect New Oxford to take their late season momentum into a potential Section title for 2022.
Susquehannock- A tough finish for Coach Wiles’ squad saw the Warriors on the outside looking in last year come playoff time. Dropping their final two contests to finish 5-5, Susquehannock should be primed for a reboot with a manageable schedule and standouts like Dawson Zorbaugh and Josh Franklin back, expect Susquehannock to be a contender.
Sleeper Team:
Eastern York- Do not sleep on Bud Kyle and the Golden Knights this season ladies and gentleman. Coach Kyle’s reputation speaks for itself, but his team returns one of the best quarterbacks in the county in Austin Billet. This could be premature as Coach Kyle continues his rebuild, but the Golden Knights are already beaming with enthusiasm since his arrival in February. If you saw what Coach accomplished at Columbia you will understand, keep a lookout for their week 1 matchup against the Crimson Tide or as many are calling it “THE Bud Kyle Bowl”.
Kennard-Dale– The section champs from last year lost a lot, but still return McLeary at QB and Head Coach Chris Grube is building a good program. Kennard-Dale does face a tough non-conference schedule of Wyomissing, Spring Grove, and Lampeter Strasburg, but once they get into league play they should be battle tested and be competitive every week.
Players to watch in the Division
Austin Bilet QB Eastern York
Josh Franklin TE Susquehannock
Brittyn Eakins RB New Oxford
Amari Davis Safety West York
Aric Campbell QB Dover
Mike Bentivegna RB York Suburban
Idriz Ahmetovic Punter New Oxford
Garret Mcleary QB Kennard-Dale
Gavin Mullens Safety Dover
New Head Coach in Division:
Bud Kyle Eastern York: Coach Kyle takes over for the Golden Knights after leading Columbia to their first section title in over 20 years last fall. Bud Kyle is from the area and will bring the best out of the community from the players to the fans look for Coach to have everyone involved. Week 1 will go a long way for both his current and former squad, and should be a fun one in Columbia August 26th!
Division 3
York Catholic, Delone Catholic, Biglerville, York Tech, Hanover, Littlestown, Bermudian Springs, Fairfield
Teams to beat for Division Title
York Catholic- A new head coach for York Catholic should not expect things to slow down for the Fighting Irish, expect them to remain on top of Division 3. The Fighting Irish are on the march for another Division and District title after coming up short last season in their shocking loss to West Catholic. QB Levan McFadden leads the team into the 2022 season and should be the spark they need to start off fast and they’re starting things off with a big one as York Catholic travels to Lancaster Catholic Week 1 to face the Crusaders in what should should be a fun matchup.
Delone Catholic- The Squires nearly knocked off the Fighting Irish last season losing 13-6 and they are using that as more motivation this season. Returning a roster nearly 60 deep with players Coach Zortman’ s team has a good shot as ever to take home the Division 3 gold.
Sleepers
Bermudian Springs- One of the hottest teams in the YAIAA last season winning the last three contests by a margin of 22 points, the Eagles came into the playoffs on fire. Giving a solid Hamburg squad everything they could handle eventually falling 31-27 in the first round of Districts. Bermudian Springs could be prized to sneak into the Division title, particularly if they can take down New Oxford in their week 1 matchup.
Players to Watch in Division 3
Levan Mcfadden QB York Catholic- All state selection last season
Quinn Brennan WR York Cathlolic
Nick Creisher LB York Catholic- Reigning Defensive player of the year
Chase Roberts QB Hanover
Tyson Carpenter FS Bermudian Springs
New Head Coach in Division
Brad Hayek York Catholic- In one of the stunning moves of the offseason former Head Coach Eric Depew resigned leaving longtime assistant Brad Hayek to take over. Hayek has been on the Fighting Irish Staff for quite some time, including three District 3 2A titles, this is his first Head Coaching stint. Quite the situation to walk into, seems very wise on York Catholic’s part to stay in house to replace Depew.
