Coach Anthony Shermeyer says “Ayden has been a starter on the defensive line for the past two years at South West. He was named first team Defensive Line in YAIAA Division 1 after the 2022 season. Last year, Ayden had 73 total tackles, 14 Sacks/TFLs and one fumble recovery return for TD. The interesting thing about Ayden’s season is that he played the last 7 games of the year with a broken wrist and still put up those stats.  His quickness and explosiveness are what sets him apart. This year we are looking at Ayden taking a leadership role. Aside from being a stalwart on the Defensive Line, Ayden will also play O-Line this season”.

LET’S GET TO KNOW AYDEN

Why do you play football?

I love the sport of football, I love the team aspect, and I love the crowds. I love taking the field each week, playing with everything I have, and leaving it all on the field.

Who is your favorite sports star and WHY?

My favorite sports star is Aaron Donald. I love the way he plays the game, his level of intensity, and how it takes two or three guys to try and contain him.

Do you have a favorite play you remember the most? Explain:

My most favorite play ever happened this past football season. I shed a blocker and saw the QB lost the ball so I scooped it up and ran it in for a touchdown.

What was last years season like for you?

It was Amazing! From a team aspect we worked really well together. Our team fought hard and put in the work to have a successful season. From a personal standpoint I felt I had my best season yet. I significantly increased my number of tackles for the season, focused on disrupting plays, and being a leader on the field.

What are your goals for this coming season?

This upcoming season I want to continue to improve upon myself personally, scholastically and athletically. I want to perfect my level of play and improve on my strengths and weaknesses on the football field as a player and as a leader.

Who is the best player you ever lined up against?

Danny Pham

What stadium, HS/college/pro would you love to visit for a game?

MetLife stadium

What is your favorite Pro team, any sport?

New York Giants

What game, yours, college or pro, was your favorite game you watched and why?

My favorite game of all time was the 2012 Super Bowl because the New York Giants went into the game as underdogs and once again they upset the New England Patriots.

Describe what the perfect teammate is

The perfect teammate is someone who is willing to show up everyday prior to the season and during the season. They must be willing to work hard, stay after practice to put in extra work, help to motivate other teammates no matter our record because we can always improve and work to be better.

Tell everyone why you think football is good for a community

I feel football is good for the community because it brings the school together in a positive manner. We hold pep rallies, choose theme nights, and have a student section to get everyone involved. Families, students, alumni, and others within the community come out to watch football and have a great time.

Name one thing that you’d love to do in football that may never happen?

I would love to play QB just once, but that’s probably not going to happen because I’m a little big for that.

Who is your mentor, the person you want to be like? WHY?

My mentor is my dad because he is someone who challenges and motivates me to be a better man, athlete, student, and all around good person. He teaches me things I never knew, supports me, helps me to set goals and then work to achieve them. He’s gone so far and accomplished so much in life. I’m proud of him and all he has accomplished.

What is your favorite practice drill? What is your least favorite practice drill?

My favorite practice drill is Offense vs Defense. I really don’t have a least favorite practice drill that I can think of.

Preseason Two a Days are:

Hard, intense, hot, exciting, but one of the best times of a football players life.

Is there anyone in your family, besides your parents, you could consider your biggest fan? Who, Why?

My grandparents, uncle, and aunt, because they always show up to my games, they believe in me, and told me to never doubt myself.

When you aren’t playing, practicing or training for sports, what is your go to activity and why?

When not training, playing, or practicing for sports, I like to play Madden or Call of Duty just relaxing and having fun with friends.

What is your favorite football memory to date?

My favorite memory is scoring a touchdown from a fumbled ball.

What is your favorite play to run?

My favorite play is anything where I am able to pull because I love blocking downfield.
