Head coach George Eager says “Deyvid is a tremendous athlete and person. His combination of size, strength, and athleticism is a rarity which has earned him over twenty division one offers from storied programs such as Michigan, PSU, USC, and ND to name a few. He has a bright future ahead of him on and off the field.”

Why did you choose to commit to USC before your senior season?

I wanted to go into my last year with a clear mind and play care free.

Who was your biggest influence there? Who recruited you?

My biggest influence was Coach Nua who was the one who recruited me. I say that because of the fact he took a chance on me all the way from California. That says a lot on how high of a priority I am to them.

What are they getting in a player like you?

They are getting a disruptive, explosive, high football iq guy who always has a high motor.

What was the recruiting process like for you?

The recruiting process was a dream come true. It got hectic at times, and it taught me to be calm and collective when things started piling up.

What position were you recruited for?

I’m being recruited for Defensive line.

Do you know what you’d like to study?

I’d like to major in Business (specifically accounting) and intern for real estate.

What role did your parents play in your decision?

My family is my core. They just made sure I was picking a school that would put me in the best position not for the next 3-4 years, but for the next 40+. They helped me see through all the flashy things thrown at me.

What do you think is the most exciting thing about the program?

The Lincoln Riley Era is real. USC is going back to the way it used to be, and I’m excited to be apart of that turn around.

What are you most looking forward to while playing for them?

The networking. The people I’ll meet and become close with. And most of all, playing Big 10 football. I was heavily recruited in the Big 10 program and with them entering it the year I enroll is exciting.

Tell everyone out there in the football world something they’d never know about you until you told them.

I grew up playing Running Back and Middle linebacker. It’s crazy to other people because of my size. But growing up I wasn’t always big. It surprises people too when they see me run because I’m no slouch.

Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?

My dad. He taught me the game, and has always held me to the highest standards.

Why do you play football?

I play football because I love it. I started playing when I was 6 years old. I always wanted to become the next Dez Bryant and Cam Newton. And growing up I realized I could potentially take it to new heights if I pushed myself.

What would you do to improve the recruiting process?

Really not having the amount of people calling and texting you 24/7. That part stressed me when I had a busy schedule and people would randomly ask for a call.

What is it you’d like all your high school teammates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?

Going away from my family and the bonds I’ve built out here will be very hard for me. I’m very big on being close to those I care about and love dearly and going across the country will be something I think will be most challenging and is definitely a sacrifice. But here’s to a new Chapter, FIGHT ON!!!!!!!!!

Let’s Learn More About Deyvid:

When did you start playing football and why do you play?

I’ve been playing football since I was 6. I first started playing because my parents wanted me to be active and apart of something bigger than myself, and I have fell in love with the sport ever since.

Who is your favorite athlete of all time and why?

My favorite athlete of all time is Tony Romo. I grew up a Cowboys fan and growing up watching him play helped me get more attached to the game.

What is your favorite memory from last season?

My favorite memory was when we won the section. Winning so many games with a great group of guys.

What is one thing you wish you could change about last season?

One thing I would change is speaking up more. Sharing my knowledge and doing all I could and more to go further in districts.

What is one goal you have for yourself this season?

Personally, I want to become a better defensive player overall. Better pass rusher, and run stuffer. Also becoming a better leader is something I have keyed in on this off season.

What is one goal you have for the team this season?

This year we are in a perfect position. We know the expectations for us are very low, and that’s where we excel most. I just want to see the guys fly around and play for each other. That’s how we win games.

If you could play another position what would it be?

I’d love to play tight end.

When your not playing football, what do you like to do?

I’m usually playing bored games with my family, at the field working on my craft, or tossing the ball around with my brother.

Who is your biggest role model and why?

It’d be my parents and my great grandparents. They inspire, and motivate me to do great in all I do.

What is the best football game you have ever watched?

Tennessee v Alabama last year was a pretty hectic one.
