YORK SPRINGS, PA – Bermudian Springs hosted York Suburban in a YAIAA matchup Friday night at Alumni Field. The Eagles got the win over the Trojans 42-14.
In the first quarter, both teams started the game with lengthy drives that both resulted in a punt. Then, at 5:57 left in the first, Bermudian’s Lane Hubbard threw a 10-yard pass to Dylan Hubbard for a touchdown, making it 6-0. The PAT attempted by Jacob Keller missed the uprights, keeping it 6-0. The Trojans would get a couple more opportunities to score in the first, however, penalties and pressure on QB Rylan Bratton kept the Trojans scoreless in the first.

Although scoreless in the first quarter, the second saw Taza Sweeney carry 2 yards for a touchdown with 11:03 left in the half. The Trojans elected to go for a 2-point conversion which was successful thanks to freshman Jack Lenzi running it in. It’s now 8-6 York Suburban, with a good chunk of time left in the half, allowing Bermudian to capitalize. Lane Hubbard would get his second passing touchdown of the night to Nayel Lua at 5:57 left. They would opt to go for it, and Eddie Sebright’s run would make it 14-8. Then, with under 2 minutes in the half, Lane Hubbard adds another to the tally on a pass to Eddie Sebright, who runs it in 20 yards for the touchdown. At the end of the first half, it was 21-8 Bermudian Springs.

The third quarter saw a lot of the same – the Trojan’s defense being unable to hold back the Eagles on rushing plays. This would allow the Hubbard duo to get their second of the night together, which made it 28-8 with 9:13 left in the third. The Trojans are finally able to score again, with Rylan Bratton keeping it near the goal line for a 1-yard rushing touchdown. They try for the conversion again, but this time they are unsuccessful. The Trojans would end their night for scoring at 14.
Even though the Trojans were done scoring for the night, Bermudian was not. Now in the fourth, Colby Watkins makes a great catch in the endzone from Lane Hubbard, which makes it 35-14. Then, with 59 seconds left, the Eagles get their first rushing touchdown of the night to make it 42-14. This also put him over 100 yards rushing for the game.
With the win, Bermudian Springs is now 1-1, while York Suburban falls to 0-2. The Eagles play away at Susquehannock next Friday, while the Trojans host Red Lion.
