Committed to Kent State

In his two years as a starter for the Colt Amarion Autry has 26 for 480 yards with four td catches. But it isn’t just his ball catching skills that attracted offers from D1 schools. He’s a strong blocker that makes his presence known right away. He’s the second Pennsylvania prospect to commit to the Golden Flash this week, joining Central York running back Legend Johnson. Bryant, Sacred Heart, Merrimack and Toledo were his other suitors.

His Head Coach at Cedar Cliff says “Kent State is getting a young man who has the ability to play anywhere on the field. He has the frame to be a traditional hand-in-the-dirt TE (6’4 225) along the athleticism to line up at any receiver position and draw double team attention. He’s got the work ethic that will have him ready to go in and compete at Kent as well as throughout the MAC. I think he’s found a great home at Kent State with a tremendous coach in Dave Bucar. It’s a place I think he will continue to develop and become an impact player.”

We caught up with Amarion to find out more about the player and his decision:

PFN: Why did you choose to commit to Kent St. before your Sr season?

Kent State felt like the right place for me because of the opportunity, the coaching staff, and the direction of the program. I felt like they believed in me not just as a player but as a person too. I like the culture they’re building and I feel like it’s a place where I can develop, compete, and make an impact early while continuing to grow on and off the field.

PFN: Who was your biggest influence there, who recruited you?

Coach Bucar and Coach Carney

PFN: What are they getting in player like you?

They’re getting a 6’4” tight end who brings size, physicality, and versatility. I take pride in being reliable, whether that’s blocking in the run game, creating mismatches in the pass game, or doing the little things that help the team win. I’m always working to improve and I’m coming in with a mindset to compete, develop, and make an impact however I’m needed.

PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?

Their recruiting process stood out because of how real and consistent they were. They recruited me as a person and a player, and I appreciated the trust they showed in me. It made me feel like I was choosing a place where I can grow and contribute.

PFN: What position were you recruited for?

TE

PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?

Finance or business

PFN: What role did your parents play in your decision?

They loved the Coaches and the college so a huge role !

PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the program?

What excites me most is being able to come in and grow in a program that believes in me. I liked the energy around the team and how the coaches talked about development and competing. It feels like a place where I can become the best version of myself.

PFN: What are you most looking forward to while playing for them?

I’m most excited for the brotherhood that comes with college football. Being around a group of guys every day, working toward the same goals, and creating relationships that last beyond football is something I’m really looking forward to. I want to be part of a team that feels like family.

PFN: Tell everyone out there in the football world something they’d never know about you until you told them:

I love snowboarding

PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?

My mom for sure !

Why do you play football?

I play football because I love competing and seeing how far I can push myself. I enjoy the work that goes into it and being able to represent something bigger than myself. The game has given me opportunities, relationships, and lessons that I’ll carry forever.

What would you do to improve the recruiting process?

Go to more camp

PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school teammates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?

I’d want my teammates and everyone who supported me to know this decision wasn’t easy because of how much this place and those relationships mean to me. I’m grateful for every coach, teammate, fan, and person who helped me get to this point. This decision was about taking the next step in my journey, but I’ll always represent where I came from and carry those experiences with me.

What are your goals for this coming season?

To win states

Tell everyone why you think football is good for a community

I’d say it’s bring people together for sure !

I eat trolli peach rings and an electrolyte drink before every game
