Central Dauphin lineman Chad Layton is making what I like to call one of the greatest commitments a player can make. He will continue his athletic and academic career at one of the finest places a player can attend, a service academy. The 6-2, 280 pound offensive lineman will fly off to the Air Force after he’s through with high school. He made his announcement yesterday via twitter:
We caught up with him and asked him about his decision:
PFN: How long have you played football?
Chad: I’ve been playing football since the seventh grade.
PFN: Why did you choose to commit to the AF Falcons?
Chad: . I chose To commit to the Air Force because I felt that I can play a very high level of football and also have a purpose and serve my country.
PFN: Why commit early?
Chad: I committed early so I didn’t have pressure and could easily focus on the season and preparing for our games ahead.
PFN: Who was your biggest influence at AF, who recruited you?
Chad: Coach Confesor recruited me. My biggest influence was myself. I listen to my gut and went from there. My parents played a big role as well as a few others.
PFN: What are they getting in player like you?
Chad: The type of player Air Force is getting by me committing is a tough, aggressive, smart, selfless team player
PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?
Chad: The recruiting process me was very smooth but also nerve-racking at the same time. There’s a lot of pressure in my own head for me to do well
PFN: What position were you recruited for?
Chad: I was recruited for interior offense of line
PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?
Chad: I’m not 100% sure what I want to study But I would like to possibly pursue being a pilot.
PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the Falcons program?
Chad: Most exciting thing to me about the Falcons program is the hands-on training and also the strength and football aspects as well.
PFN: Tell everyone out there in the America you’re about to serve something they’d never know about you until you told them:
Chad: I am a very genuine guy. But I can switch on my aggression and become a dominant football player.
PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?
Chad: My uncle had a lot of influence on my football career. He got me my first personal trainer. And also believed in me.
PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school team mates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?
Chad: I am completely happy with my decision and I know my teammates are right with me and feel the same way I just hope that all my teammates can make it to the next level if they wish.
