Last year was a breakout year for Central York kick Matther Parker. One of the highlights was just a few nights after we discussed the importance of having a great kicker with Gerry Yonchiuk and Mattew Parker on “The State of PA Football” Parker went out an NEARLY captured a national record with a 54 yard free kick. It was a PA State record. Week after week Parker appeared on the top performances list each week. His efforts were rewarded with D1 offers from all over, including his favorite university, Penn State back in February.

Today, he committed to the Nittany Lions.  We caught up with him and asked him about his choice:

PFN: Why did you choose to commit to them before your Sr season?

Matthew: I had to just let everyone know this is really school I want to go to.

PFN: Who was your biggest influence there. , who recruited you?

Matthew: Justin Lustig

PFN: What are they getting in player like you?

Matthew: Someone who wants to get better everyday as player, christian, student, person.

PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?

Matthew: Just grateful for everything, at times a little overwhelming but was a good ride

PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?

Matthew: Kinesiology or Sports Management

PFN: What role did your parents play in your decision?

Matthew: A big one, right by my side through it all.

PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the program?

Matthew: It’s Penn State, Everything

PFN: What are you most looking forward to while playing for them?

Matthew: Just being out there

PFN: Tell everyone out there in the football world something they’d never know about you until you told them:

Matthew: My position should be ATH instead of Kicker because we can do it all.

PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?

Matthew: All my Football coaches but also mr. Hagerman our AD

Why do you play football?

Matthew: I love it.

What would you do to improve the recruiting process?

Matthew: Be easier for coaches to talk to us

PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school teammates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?

Matthew: Penn State was not always my dream school as i was born in VA, so for me to pick them means they showed the world and it meant everything to me and my parents.
