Recruiting can be a difficult process. And with the new early signing date, high school players are choosing to commit early to secure a scholarship spot. When Exeter Twp lineman Michael McNish began his process of becoming a college football star, teams took notice. Right up until as recently as 2 weeks ago he was hearing from schools who wanted his service. He did the camp circuit, visiting schools like Bucknell, Brown, St. Francis and others over the summer, but it was Bryant that stepped up and gave the 6’2″, 285lb lineman his first offer, he announced it on September 13th of this year. Like so many players have done this year, he didn’t hesitate on accepting that offer and committed to play for Bryant just three weeks later.

We caught up with Michael and asked him about his decision:

WPA: why did you choose Bryant?

Michael: Bryant is the perfect situation for me from an academic, athletic, and social standpoint

WPA: who was your biggest influence at Bryant, who recruited you?

Michael: Offensive Line Coach Ben Martin, he’s very intelligent, personable, and demanding; I can tell how great it will be to have a working relationship with him.

WPA: what do your parents think of your decision?

Michael: They are just as excited as I am. They know how much hard work I’ve put in to put myself in this position.

WPA: what are they getting in player like you?

Michael: Bryant is getting a hardworking player that will do anything to win!

WPA: what position will you play?

Michael: Guard and/or center, wherever they ask me to play

WPA: why commit early?

Michael: I’ve know since my first visit on campus that Bryant is the place I want to be.

WPA: what was the recruiting process like for you?

Michael: Stressful, it was hard to know at times what feelings were mutual.

WPA: Do you know what you’d like to study?

Michael:  I will start out majoring Business Undeclared, narrow down to something specific in the field after my first year

WPA: What do you think is the most exciting thing about Bryant?

Michael: I feel at home there, as student, as a football player, and as a person, Bryant checks all the boxes for me.

WPA: How will this affect your play for your senior season?

Michael: I will play as hard as I’ve always have, but I imagine I will feel a little looser.
