Bishop McDevitt three-star offensive lineman Gabriel Arena is heading to Virginia Tech to continue his athletic and academic career. The 6’5, 285-pound lineman made his choice earlier today. Arena helped anchor his team to a District 3 4A Championship this past year as well as a second-place finish at the PIAA 4A State Championship game. PFN got a chance to talk to Arena and hear a little bit more about his decision to commit to Virginia Tech.

How long have you played football?

I have played football ever since I was in kindergarten, so for almost 12 years.

Why did you choose to commit to the Hokies?

I choose to commit to the Hokies because with the new staff and continued great personal experiences they made it seem like home.

Who was your biggest influence at Virginia Tech, and who recruited you?

My biggest influence and the person who recruited me was Coach Rudolph, we share a lot of things in common including our constant effort of wanting to achieve greatness and win championships.

What are they getting in a player like you?

Virginia Tech is getting a natural leader and a person who’s willing to put maximum effort into everything.

What was the recruiting process like for you?

The recruiting process was good.

What position were you recruited for?

I’m recruited to play offensive line.

Do you know what you’d like to study?

it’s always been my dream to study Aerospace Engineering.

What role did your parents play in your decision?

My parents played a big role, even though they might not think it. It all dated back to our first trip to Blacksburg, to how welcoming it seemed and how everyone was happy with the trip.

What do you think is the most exciting thing about the Virginia Tech program?

The most exciting thing would have to be the traditions. One of my favorites would have to be entering the stadium on gameday to, ‘Enter Sandman’ by Metallica.

What are you most looking forward to while playing for the Hokies?

I’m looking forward to winning championships because don’t get me wrong that is something we will be doing.

Tell everyone out there in the Hokies football world something they’d never know about you until you told them:

I’m approachable and excited to be able to communicate with fans that wish to do so.

Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?

This goes to my father, he introduced it to me and is by far my number one teacher.

What is it you’d like all your high school teammates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?

Friends old and new, it doesn’t matter to me everyone is family, our bond is unbreakable so let us keep it that way!
