Justin Cook taken down after one of his 8 receptions for 121 yards

Justin Cook hauled in a couple Zakii Lewis td passes and Damaris Waters pulled in one of his own, but it was Terrell Roberts ripping the ball out of Jared Porters hands, returning the rock 31 yards to the house that more explains the Cougars 25-20 win over rival Central Dauphin East on Saturday afternoon.  The Harrisburg defense continually hounded the East offense, dropping Panthers for losses on many plays during this 3 1/2 hour marathon game that included 21 penalties for over 200 yards. “Just stopping their run and just stopping their deep balls and hitches. That’s pretty much all they did, so we knew that. They got a fairly easy one on us, but we were very confident” said Harrisburg head coach Cal Everett.

Trailing 25-13 late in the fourth quarter, East High’s Marcel McDaniels had a strip/fumble/td run of his own, going 62 yards to make it a 25-20 game with just under 2 minutes to play, but Kyle Williams pounced on the onside kick attempt and the Cougars snuffed out the comeback attempt.

The opening series set the tone as East was pinned deep after two big penalties and was forced to punt the ball away. Then on Harrisburg’s second series, emotions got the better of the Panthers and they were hit with two personal foul penalties that put the Cougars at the East 35. One play later Cook and Lewis hooked up for their first td from 35 yards out. Cook was wide open on the play but had to make a juggling catch.

East fought back with a little defense of their own, forcing a Harrisburg punt that went off the side of the kickers foot, giving the Panthers great field position at the Cougar 18. Tymere Thornton hauled in a 15 yard td pass from Tony Powell but the kick after was blocked leaving the score 7-6

It took just a couple plays for the Cougars to respond. Facing first and long at their 37, Lewis found Cook for a 63 yard score to make it 13-6. Then with 2:41 left in the first half, Roberts literally ripped the ball away from Porter and rambled 31 yards for the score, and the Cougars took a 19-7 lead into the locker room.

Harrisburg opened the second half with a Damaris Waters 18 yard td catch from Shawn Lee for the winning points cushion. East will look to get back on track next Friday with Chambersburg while the Cougars will face off with Cumberland Valley.
