Manheim Township head coach Mark Evans must be excited heading into the 2019 season.  First it was Ben Mann committing to Yale, the his QB Harry Kirk picks Colgate and yesterday linebacker Jon Engel committed to Lafayette.  That’s not only three preseason commits for Township, it’s three commits at some very high end education institutes!  Jon made the announcement that he would be joining Lafayette on twitter:

We caught up with Jon to ask him about his decision

PFN: How long have you played football?

Jon: I have been playing football for about 8 years now.

PFN: Why did you choose to commit to the Leopards?

Jon: I chose Lafayette because of the family feel, great level of academics, and the high level of football.

PFN: Why commit early?

Jon: I committed early because I found a perfect fit, and I didn’t want to waste any more time.

PFN: Who was your biggest influence at Lafayette, who recruited you?

Jon: Coach Lundy was a great influence who recruited me at first, but when he introduced me to the rest of the staff, I felt even more comfortable with Lafayette.

PFN: What are they getting in player like you?

Jon: Lafayette is getting a player who will work harder than anyone else, and consistently push himself and his teammates to get better.

PFN: What was the recruiting process like for you?

Jon: The recruiting process was a blessing and curse at the same time. I was very grateful to be recruited by many coaches, but it often caused stress. I am very glad to have found a place I can call home for the next 4 years.

PFN: What position were you recruited for?

Jon: I was recruited to play a safety/linebacker hybrid.

PFN: Do you know what you’d like to study?

Jon: I plan on studying Economic

PFN: What role did your parents play in your decision?

Jon: My parents played a very large role in my commitment. I am glad they love Lafayette as much as I do.

PFN: What do you think is the most exciting thing about the Lafayette program?

Jon: Lafayette is exciting because they are in a rebuild process, and the future looks very bright for them.

PFN: Tell everyone out there in Leopard Land something they’d never know about you until you told them:

Jon: All you need to know about me is that I will do anything I have to do to win games. I am a team player and will sacrifice for the team.

PFN: Who is the person who most influenced you in your football career?

Jon: My head coach, Coach Evans has influenced me the most in my football career. He has pushed me to become the football player that I am today, and more importantly, a better man. I learned many important life skills from him that will help me after football.

PFN: What is it you’d like all your high school team mates and fans to know about your decision that you might have a hard time saying in person?

Jon: I want to thank all my team mates for being the great people they are. I definitely would not be able to achieve this without them.
