There were bone crushing hits, outstanding catches, skirmishes among the lineman but most importantly, football was played at Chryst Field Saturday afternoon. The Millersville Marauders completed the Spring practices with their annual Black and Gold Game in which both sides of the football show their potential. Redshirt Freshman Jalen Carter snagged in two touchdown passes. Harlon Hill candidate, Tyrell Tate, was virtually unblock-able and school leading passer, Jack Staagard, continue to show why this Marauder squad could be dangerous come fall.

The Marauders Black and Gold game was not a typical scrimmage, with Coach Morgan implementing a two minute drill, redzone opportunities and goaline stands. Overall the fourth year Head Coach was happy with the team’s progress, “It’s football, were excited, we just gotta keep on.” Millersville returns several key starters from last years squad and with a nice recruiting class, there was a positive buzz among the Marauder faithful.

A couple of those recruits included All League Wide Receiver Owen Sensenig (Manheim Central) and Columbia’s all time leading passer Robert Footman. Both players were in attendance on the sideline and cannot wait to get on campus. Speaking with Sensenig before the game on why he picked Millersville, he was adamant that they wanted him from the get go, “I got to make some good connections, they (Millersville) were at a number of my games, after a couple of visits, it went really well.” The Manheim Central product enrolls in August has already been lifting with the Marauder football program. He plans to stay at Wide Receiver come fall. Coach Morgan is very happy with his incoming freshman class, when asking him how they nabbed the receiver (who had offers from around the PSAC), he smiled and said “sometime kids go under the radar, we are happy to have him with us.”

Another standout who this reporter has frequently written about is Robert Footman. The soon to be Columbia alumni committed to the Ville back in February. He was very enthusiastic cheering on his future teammates and like Sensenig is ready to get started. “A lot of hard work and preparation to get myself ready” Footman said “I’m excited to get started- its hard watching the game on the sidelines and I cant wait for August to come around.” Millersville had an excellent recruiting class that includes kids from Maryland, New Jersey and different parts of Pennsylvania and nabbing Footman only added to it. Coach Morgan, when asked about Robert, had this to say “We are really excited about Rob, Coach Beard (Millersville Special Teams Coach) did a great job with him and watching him especially in that playoff game, we can’t wait to have him on campus.”

Millersville had touchdown passes from both Staagard and backup Luke Thomas, Carter hauled in two while fellow Redshirt Freshman Cam Taylor snagged the other. The Marauders will break from camp looking to breakthrough with their first winning season in over two decades this Fall. They return All PSAC selections on both sides of the ball but Coach Morgan knows the work will never stop. “We just gotta keep on, learning the game, teaching the game.” Morgan added, “one thing that is really happening up front on both sides is that we are making good strides and that is where it starts.” The Marauders will break from camp and finish strong for finals. Come Fall look for them to take the next step in their rebuild.
