Samuel Brown’s college offer sheet is impressive, but so is his game. The talented junior rushed for 165 yards and three scores and padded his stats with 2 catches for 30 yards and a game busting td catch. “They’ve certainly got some talent over there, and he’s a good one” said Manhiem Township head coach Mark Evans. “We knew what they were coming in here” said Brown, “they’re like 33-5 the past three years. We knew what we had to do and my line helped get it done.”

La Salle jumped out to a 26-6 lead at halftime, but it came at a cost. Following a blocked punt with just seconds left in the half by Explorers Sean Mcfadden, starting quarterback Alan Paturzo rolled right and was pushed out of bounds. He didn’t leave the ground for 10 more minutes, exiting the game with an apparent knee injury. “I do feel really bad for him” said La Salle head coach John Steinmetz.

The game started with a moment of silence for Isaiah Turner. Isaiah passed away after a recent practice. “We did this for Zay” said Brown. The Explorers then took a delay on their first play of the game to honor their missing player with just 10 players on the field. “It felt great, theres a lot of teams that dont have the opportunity to play football right now so we’re just taking advantage of it” said Brown.

The scoring started in the first quarter with Brown scampering 28 yards to put La Salle up 7-0 with 9:28 left in the first quarter. Manheim Township would steal the momentum when Elijah Fonseca grabbed a punt and raced 45 yards to make it 7-6 late in the first, but that seemed to motivate Brown. The junior running back scored on a 20 yard run, then with 44 seconds left in the half he ripped off a 66 yard run to put La Salle up 21-6.

Before the big td run, Township missed a golden opportunity to make it a 21-13 game. After reaching the La Salle five yard line, the Blue Streak offense sputtered and missed on a short field goal attempt. ““Stop beating yourselves. You’re missing a valuable opportunity to put it all out there. And when you’re thinking, you’re stinking. To put it mildly. You’re thinking, you’re stinking” said Evans. “We can’t leave points off the board, we have to finish”.

Coach Evan’s group came out in the second half and had some extra energy thanks in part to a beautiful catch and run from highly recruited wide receiver Anthony Ivey. Ivey grabbed a pass from Evan Clark at the 28, made a brilliant move and dashed to the endzone.

On the next Explorer play, Chris Negron stepped in front of a pass from backup quarterback Gavin Daly and raced 45 yards to make it a 28-20 game, but the Explorers ground out a 12 play, 80 yard drive capped by a big time touchdown run from Brown. Daly hit the running back on a quick out pass on fourth down and Brown plowed through two defenders and headed to the endzone to put the visitors up 35-20.

To close out the scoring, Ivey outleapt two defenders for a 5 yard td score late in the game.

“It’s good football out there. That was some great football out there. We played a great first half, we just need to learn how to finish” said La Salle head coach John Steinmetz.
