Aliquippa, Wyomissing and Steelton-Highspire will all move up a class for the 2024-2026 PIAA sports cycles.

The defending 4A champion Quips will move to 5A and compete with the likes of Peters Twp, Penn-Trafford, Moon and Upper St. Clair. This is the third time the Quips have face the possibility of moving up due to the PIAA transfer rule being attached to the success factor rule.  When a team earns a certain amount of points in a two year cycle and has 3 or more transfers, they move up one class for the following two year cycle. Aliquippa is already above their original classification of 2A. During the last cycle they argued successfully to remain in 4A. Aliquippa had 5 transfers in the last two cycles.

Steelton-Highspire will also move up a class. The Rollers will play in 2A for the next two years after winning two straight titles. Several of the players on their team came over from Middletown when their program was shuttered two years ago.

Wyomissing also will move up to 4A. They’ve been perennial title contenders. Bishop Guilfoyle won their appeal to not remain in 2A and will drop back to 1A.

In other football news today, Farrell lost it’s appeal to the PIAA to be allowed to join the WPIAL. They were granted a release from District 10, however, the WPIAL voted not to accept them back into the league. Several WPIAL teams cited travel as a main concern.
