With a trip to the 1A state championship on the line, Steelton-Highspire dominated the South Williamsport Mountaineers to the tune of a 48-21 victory.

Steelton-Highspire has cemented itself as the premier program in PIAA 1A football. With 2 state titles in the last 3 years, and now a birth to another state title and a chance to make it 3 in 4. Navy Commit Alex Erby has had yet another insane season for the Rollers. Entering the game, Erby has thrown for 53 touchdown passes, closing in on a PIAA state record for a single season. Today, however, it was the running that propelled Steelton Highspire to a huge 48-point offensive showing.

South Williamsport is not supposed to be here, they were able to will themselves to the Semifinal, but were outmatched. The Mountaineers have been a solid program, but this is their best season in a while. A week ago, they shut out Cambria Heights 33-0. Against one of the best offenses in the State, the Defense had a tall task that they eventually could not live up to.

A light drizzle draped Kemp Stadium in Shamokin and the Rollers of Steelton-Highspire were on the attack early. Just the 2nd play into the game and Steel High got on the Board with the Jaeion Perry receiving TD on the jet pass from Erby.

Early into the game, it was Erby and the Steelton-Highspire passing attack slicing the Mountaineer defense left and right. Again it was Erby, this time to Rell Caesar Jr to give them a 2-score lead.

The Rollers were on point, but this time Alex Erby went to the ground game and found success with a huge rushing TD.

South Williamsport was able to find the endzone to bring it to a 14-point game. This eventually would be the closest South Williamsport would get to the lead.

It was at this time that Steelton-Highspire found success on the ground, and had back-to-back TDs on the ground, and led 35-7 at the half.

Out the 2nd half gate, and the running game continued to work wonders for Steelton-Highspire. This Ronald Burnette Jr TD was the last Steelton-Highspire TD of the night.

South Williamsport would get a pair of late scores to make the final score 48-21 in favor of Steelton-Highspire.

It was a great season for South Williamsport, and a season everyone involved will remember. Their downfall today came with their inability to the run the ball and a lack of any offensive threat outside of a few deep throws.

Steelton-Highspire enter the 1A State Title game looking lethal as ever. Erby and his now 56 passing TDs this year speak for themselves. Their ability to run the ball so effectively today is what makes them so difficult to gameplan against. If they need to throw for 5 TDs, they can. But if they need to run the ball, they can, and effectively. They will play Fort Cherry Thursday at 1PM for a chance to win another State Title.

After the game, I spoke to Steelton-Highspire HC Andrew Erby and QB Alex Erby.
