Record setting night for Bryce Herb

The Williams Valley Viking’s hosted the Tri Valley Bulldogs Friday night at Stauffenberg field. Williams Valley came out on top winning 35-28 and Bryce Herb broke his dad’s record for all-time passing yardage.

The Vikings started out the game with an onside kick that put the Dawgs on their own 38. What looked to be a touchdown pass turned into Herman intercepting the ball in the endzone. Vikings took over with the ball on their own 20. The Dawgs defense forced a punt and took over on their own 45. Tri Valley took the ball downfield where Mcgrath ran it in 2 yards making it 7-0. Williard responded right back when he returned the kickoff all the way to Dawgs 3-yard line. Achenbach finished off the drive tying the game 7-7. The first quarter ended 7-7.

The Bulldogs started off the second quarter strong when Mcgrath linked up with Richards putting them on the Vikings 15. Vikings defense held the Bulldawgs from scoring making them turn it over on downs. Vikings offense unable to move the ball are forced to punt where Bulldawgs took over on the 50. Mcgrath linked up with Wetzel for a 48-yard reception pass. Chase Herb ran it in the endzone 2 yards making it 14-7. Bulldawgs defense forced the Vikings to punt yet again where they took over on their own 44. Mcgrath found Herb downfield for a 33-yard touchdown pass which made it 21-7. Bulldawgs went into halftime leading 21-7.

The Vikings offense looked a little different the second half with Engle at tailback and Jackson Yoder at fullback. The Vikings were finally able to move the ball downfield where Herb linked up with Herman for a 24-yard touchdown pass which made it 21-14. The Vikings pressure defense forced Mcgrath to throw an interception that tipped off Chase Herbs fingers and landed in Williard’s arms. Engle found a gap and ran it 30 yards to the endzone which tied the game at 28-28. The Bulldogs answered when Mcgrath linked up with Chase Herb for a 42-yard touchdown pass which put them back on top 28-21. The Viking’s kept momentum and responded right back when Bryce Herb found Herman for a 36 yard touchdown pass, which tied it again at 28-28. This pass allowed Bryce Herb to beat his dad’s all-time passing yardage record of 4,530. Back and forth battle between both teams led to the third quarter ending 28-28.

Bulldogs started the fourth quarter with the ball on their own 41. Mcgrath got picked off by Engle who took it to the Bulldogs 14. What looked to be a loss of downs for the Vikings turned into Herb linking up with Brady Evans for a 17-yard touchdown pass which put the Vikings ahead 35-28. Both teams’ defenses held each other from scoring which ended the game with Williams Valley winning 35-28.

When asked how it felt to break his dads record Bryce Herb responded with, “it feels great to finally beat my dad’s record, I’ve been talking about it for a while and now I can always say that I beat my dad’s record.” Engle led the Vikings in rushing with 13 carries for 99 yards. Bryce Herb led in passing with 96 yards while Herman led in receiving with 4 receptions for 79 yards. For the Bulldawgs Chase Herb led in rushing with 22 carries for 104 yards followed by Scheib with 9 carries for 50 yards. Mcgrath led in passing with 217 yards while Chase Herb led in receiving with 3 receptions for 78 yards. Layne Yoder followed with 3 receptions for 50 yards.
