Coming off last week’s win over Mount Carmel, Bloomsburg carried their momentum to a 40-0 win over Warrior Run on Thursday, October 1 at Panther Stadium.

On the third play of scrimmage, Bloom’s Nasir Heard intercepted a Nathan Michael pass and returned it 43 yards for the game’s opening score not even two minutes into the contest.

“That was a momentum-changing play,” Panther head coach Mike Kogut said. “That was a big play by Nasir off the tip. To get up early was very big and any time you do that gives our kids confidence. Our defense showed up last week and a shut out this week. They played extremely hard.”

The Panthers held the Defenders to -25 total yards of offense, 0 through the air, and forced multiple bad snaps that thwarted any attempt Warrior Run tried to move the ball.

Panther QB Jack Howell threw for 181 yards and two touchdowns on 10-of-14 completions. Both scores came early on to help build the Panthers’ 27-0 halftime lead. With 6:13 left to play in the first quarter, Howell hit Daniel Guzevich from 14 yards out then later connected with Brody Hock for 61 yards to start the second quarter.

Luke Potora then ran in a score from a yard out with 8:09 remaining before the half.

The Panthers added two more scoring drives midway through the second half. Heard found the end zone a second time, this time at his running back position, from 12 yards out while Potora broke off a 21-yard run early in the fourth to push the lead to 40-0.

Potora finished with 7 carries for 63 yards and two scores and Hock finished with 142 yards on 6 receptions.

“I’m happy with our effort but I wasn’t happy with our penalties,” continued Kogut. “I was afraid with the lack of focus coming off an emotional win but once we got our groove in the second half we were good and I was happy with that.”

Bloomsburg improves to 3-1 overall while Warrior Run falls to 0-4. The Panthers travel to Loyalsock on October 9. Warrior Run is also in action that evening, playing host to Mount Carmel.
