Danville’s Carson Persing runs 59 yards to the endzone in Friday night’s 42-21 loss to Jersey Shore. Friday, October 16, 2021.

On a hot October night, the Danville Ironmen traveled to Thompson Street Stadium to take on the undefeated Jersey Shore Bulldogs in a game that was decided in the second half by the Bulldogs defense. Going into halftime in Friday’s game it was a close 28-21 game with the Bulldogs leading but with a strong second half, the Bulldogs defense held the Ironmen to zero while scoring two touchdowns of their own to pull away and stay undefeated. In the game, there were many lead changes and big plays, for the Bulldogs quarterback Brady Jordan finished the game with three touchdowns accounted for and a fumble recovery. Also, in the game Bulldogs’ Haden Packer was able to score three touchdowns. For the Ironmen quarterback Madden Patrick was able to score on two long touchdowns and running back Ty Stauffer contributed with a long touchdown himself.

Jersey Shore was the first team to get on the board Friday night. Packer drove his way into the endzone from six yards out while carrying a pile on his back. Breck Miller nailed the pat giving the Bulldogs an early 7-0 lead.

The Ironmen would answer the Bulldogs touchdown as Patrick connected with Carson Persing for a huge 59-yard catch and run touchdown. The point-after attempt was good making the score 7-7. The Ironmen would capitalize again as Patrick found Mason Raup for a 62-yard touchdown the following drive. The score was now 14-7 Ironmen with about 8:37 to go in the second quarter.

The following Bulldog possession Jordan connected with his favorite target Cayden Hess for a 39 yard gain down to the one-yard line. The very next play Packer was able to score his second touchdown of the night to tie the game after a Miller pat. The next Bulldog possession Jordan would find the endzone again. After shifting snd breaking ankles Jordan scampered 26 yards into the endzone. Miller made the extra point giving the Bulldogs a 21-14 lead.

The next Ironmen possession ended with a score. Stauffer would rumble 84 yards to the house leaving Bulldogs in the dust. This would tie the score at 21. However, the Bulldogs would drive down the field and with the help of Jordan get down to the one-yard line for Packer to power his way into the endzone. Miller nailed the pat making the score 28-21 which would be the halftime score of Friday night’s game.

To open the second half the Bulldogs were able to drive 70 yards and finish with a Jordan nine-yard touchdown run to give the Bulldogs a 35-21 lead after the Miller pat. The Bulldogs defense stepped up in the second half with an interception and fumble while allowing zero points. Dathan Tyson was able to pick off Patrick, however, Danville’s Cameron Kiersch picked off Jordan. The Ironmen were able to drive down to the one-yard line. At the one-yard line, the Ironmen were pushing into the endzone but the ball was ripped out and Jordan was able to pounce on it.

“Were conditioned to be a second-half team and we knew they were getting tired so we just gutted it out and finished. Our defense is tough and just tough guys all around.” Jordan said.

The final score of the night was a connection found a lot in Bulldog ball games, Jordan to Hess from nine yards out to make the score 42-21 after a Miller pat. This would be the final score of Friday Night’s contest.

For the Danville Ironmen, the loss drops their record to 5-3 on the year but they will look to bounce back next Friday as they take on Shamokin. For the Jersey Shore Bulldog’s the win brings their record to 8-0 and they will look to stay undefeated next week as they travel to Bald Eagle to take on the 7-1 Bald Eagles.
