We’re halfway through the 2023 NTL football season and many familiar names are atop of their respective division standings. Let’s take a look.

Canton and Troy are the two remaining undefeated teams in the league, starting the second half of the season with perfect 5-0 records. The Old Shoe rivals have been the top of the Large School Division for the last few years. This year’s rivalry game will decide the Large School Division title. However, don’t count out Towanda. The Black Knights have made big strides in 2023, behind the running of Riley Vanderpool, compiling a 3-2 record at the midway point and improving upon last year’s 4-7 record and 2021’s 1-8 record.

Wyalusing and Wellsboro are hovering in the middle of the pack currently, so don’t count out the two to make a run for the third place spot. Both teams have already won more games than last season, and Wellsboro’s overtime loss to the Black Knights last week have them at 2-3 instead of 3-2.

Muncy and South Williamsport are tied atop the Small School Division standings, both with 4-1 records. The two foes meet up on October 6 which should decide the division champion. But don’t count out Cowanesque Valley. The Indians are off to their best start since 2021 under 2nd year head coach Joe Leonard. In that 2021 season the Indians started out 3-2, finished 6-4, and qualified for the District IV Class 3A playoffs.
