There are certain games football purists can watch, and it really tickle that itch they have as to the feeling of how football felt to watch  in the previous era. The game tonight between the Selinsgrove Seals and Juniata Indians, was certainly one of those.

The Seals and Indians of this last couple of years , have quite the familiarity with each other. They’ve met 4 times now in the previous three years, and it’s always made for an interesting contest.

The Seals forced an Indian 3&out on the game’s opening possession, and got right to work. Rocco Amato quickly and efficiently led his Seals down the field ,exclusively via the run capping off the drive with a 38yd TD scamper from bruiserback Ethan Miller. (PAT good 7-0 4:40 1st). Both teams defenses told the tale of the middle this game.

Juniata DB Connor Boreman even notched an interception that in fact stymied a Selinsgrove drive. That had showed real promise early in the 3rd stanza.Neither team could quite shake the penalty bug in this contest though, as the officials were frequently forced to toss their flags. The scoring would pick back up again when Jasper shepps pulled down a 4th &12 heave from Wyatt Ehrenzeller for a 12 yard score.(8:28 4th 2pt try no good). Juniata  got the ball back around the 5 minute mark, and that’s when tragedy struck. Devon Mitchell  forced  and recovered a Wyatt Ehrenzeller fumble at the 20. The Seals were able to inch their way to the twelve yard line, before Gavin Bastian cashed in for what would be the final score of the night at the 2:40 mark. Final 14-6 Selinsgrove

This is what Gavin Bastian had to say in the post game.” I think we just had everybody kinda realize that all the news stations were saying we weren’t gonna be very good after last year , that we had all these guys leaving and what not. But we’ve been working hard this off-season that’s not just me that’s everyone, every day in the weight room, coming up after to run we all just got one mentality man.

Senior Runningback Ethan Miller on the week one win.” “I mean it felt wonderful I was missing one thing that was my cowboy collar, but other than that I felt great coming into the game. We had a tough off-season so our body’s were a little beat but our coaches gave us time to recover the last few days, just slowing practice down and really fine tuning some issues.

Coach Matt Wenrich on what’s going through his mind.”A Ton of emotions for sure at the end of the day a wins a win, but there’s a lot we need to clean up. It feels great , seeing what these guys have done throughout the summer time and stuff,to get a win under their belt, it feels good to be a part of it.

Coach Matt Wenrich on being able to coach more free of nerves after win number 1. “Oh absolutely I might get more than 30 seconds of sleep tonight, now that I don’t have this game to worry about certainly a big weight off the chest.”
