Sites/Sounds/Videos and tidbits from District 4 Media Day

The District 4 Coaches Association held their annual Media Day event Tuesday at the Williamsport Country Club. Organizer Justin Van Fleet of Loyalsock does a great job with this event. Before the show started there was a lot of chatter about the equity meeting that was happening in State College. I heard things from “I really don’t care, let’s just line up and play” to “I don’t really think it’s going to do much” to “the only fix is to separate”. A subject that won’t go away anytime soon.

There was also talk of Southern’s title and how with the core they have coming back, they’ll be tough once again. The the show began, with WHLM legendary sportscaster Jim Doyle, who introduced each coach and team throughout the event.

The top story for me was the introduction of a new team, Midd West. The Mustangs will be led by former Millersburg head coach Brad Hatter. Brad couldn’t make it, so assistant coach Lance Adams brought a few members of the team. They have optimism their first season could go well and are excited by the challenge.

In other notes, Shamokin introduced their new Head Coach, former SCA Tiger and Super Bowl Champ Henry Hynoski. Hynoski is looking forward to the challenge and anxious to get started with the season. “I hope to revive the Indian program and get them back where they belong, among the top teams” said the former all state running back. His players echoed that, and said they noticed right away “he’s going to make a difference”. Nat Miller said “he really knows his stuff. I know it’s going to make us better.”

Bucktail Head Coach Bruce Ransom discussed his struggle with not only a small enrollment and the challenge of losing St Joes on their schedule. The Bucks had them on the schedule twice, so it made for a challenging scenario to fill but it worked out for them.

One thing I did notice as each coach introduced their players and talked about their upcoming season, several said while they were cutting it close in numbers of players last year, their numbers have doubled. That’s good to hear, and I’m sure it has something to do with the resurgence of all of the District 4 teams. We’d like to take this moment to wish all the District 4 teams good luck and good health this season.
