The 2022 D5 A Football Playoffs begin this weekend. The 4 team tournament will conclude with the D5 A Championship on 11/11. The D5 A Champion will then enter the PIAA State A Playoffs to play the winner out of the D3 and D12 regional. Northern Bedford enters the D5 A tournament as the # 1 Seed and they have won the last 2 D5 A titles. Northern Bedford is undefeated on the season and is ranked as Honorable mention in the Pa Football News Rankings (check out all the rankings here: PFN Rankings ). Windber is the #2 Seed and they have won 8 D5 titles, but haven’t won the championship since 2008. Windber is ranked #6 in the PFN state rankings. Conemaugh Township is the #3 Seed and has 4 D5 titles with the last being in 2016. Tussey Mountain is the #4 Seed and has 3 D5 titles with the last being in 2019.
Tussey Mountain @ Northern Bedford
Northern Bedford is 10-0 on the season and finished 1st in the Inter County League. Northern Bedford beat Cambria Heights last week 37-14. Northern Bedford is led on offense by Junior QB Eion Snider, Junior RB Adam Johnson, and Sophomore WR Aaron Bowers. Snider has passed 93-156 for 1,557 yards with 17 TDs and 3 INTs. Snider has also rushed 44 times for 223 yards and 4 TDs. Johnson has rushed 170 times for 1,416 yards (8.3 average) and 26 TDs. Johnson has 17 receptions for 461 yards and 4 TDs receiving. Bowers has 39 receptions for 570 yards and 5 TDs. Northern Bedford has averaged 40 points per game and has outscored their opponents 402-119. On defense, Northern Bedford is led by Junior LB Asthon Detterline, Junior DL Keyan Guyer, and Junior LB Logan Pepple. Detterline has 46 tackles. Guyer has 4 sacks and 17 tackles. Pepple has 4 sacks, 28 tackles, 1 INT, and 2 fumble recoveries. Northern Bedford’s defense has only allowed 11 points per game on average this season. Senior K Collin Yeatts has made 42-46 PATs and 2-2 FGs with a long of 28.
Tussey Mountain is 4-6 on the season and finished 9th in the Inter County League. Tussey Mountain lost to Southern Huntingdon 58-28 last week. Tussey Mountain is led on offense by Sophomore QB Landon Myers, Junior RB Isaiah Sosak, and Junior WR Collin Gillis. Myers has passed 37-91 for 547 yards with 4 TDs and 10 INTs. Myers has also rushed 49 times for 212 yards and 2 TDs. Sosak has rushed 200 times for 1,148 yards and 14 TDs. Gillis has 16 receptions for 436 yards and 6 TDs. On defense, Tussey Mountain is led by Freshman LB Noah Lucko, Senior DE Jaden Yochum, and Senior MLB Nevin Hinkel. Lucko has 81 tackles, 3 INTs, and 3 sacks. Yochum has 79 tackles and 3 sacks. Hinkel has 59 tackles and 1 sack.
Northern Bedford and Tussey Mountain played on 9/26 @ Tussey Mountain. Northern Bedford won 36-14. Snider passed for 274 yards with 4 TDs and 1 INT for Northern Bedford in the game. Johnson and Bowers each went over 100 yards receiving for Northern Bedford and had 1 TD each. Sosak rushed for 177 yards and 2 TDs for Tussey Mountain.
The winner of this game will play in the D5 Championship against the winner of the Conemaugh Township/Windber game on 11/11. That preview is HERE
