The Central Dragons and Penn Cambria Panthers faced off Friday night in Roaring Springs with a final score no one was expecting. Coming into the game both teams were undefeated and both teams are ranked in PFN’s 3A state rankings. Central sits at sixth and Penn Cambria at ninth. Friday night proved why Central is ranked sixth. Parker Gregg and Jeff Hoenstine led the Dragons to a 46-6 victory. For Hoenstine, he finished 10-15 for 179 yards passing and five touchdowns. For Gregg, he finished with 102 all-purpose yards for three touchdowns and an interception on defense.
Penn Cambria received the ball in Friday night’s game and on the first drive turned the ball over on fourth down on their own 39-yard line. The very next play Hoenstine connected with Gregg for a tough running 39-yard touchdown. Hunter Smith nailed the extra point giving the Dragons an early 7-0 lead. Later in the first quarter Panthers quarterback, Garrett Harrold looked to complete a deep pass but was intercepted by Gregg at the 42-yard line. Two plays later Hoenstine heaved a 42-yard touchdown to Eli Lingenfelter. The extra point was no good giving the Dragons a 13-0 lead.

On Penn Cambria’s following possession on third down, Dragon’s Jason Clark rushed Harrold and got his second sack of the night. This would be one of four sacks for the Dragons defense as well as having two interceptions. Smith even took an interception 59 yards to the house but was called back with a blindside penalty. On Central’s next possession it looked as the Panthers were gaining some momentum. Nathan Little was able to sack Honestine but in the next play, the Dragons used trickery. Hoenstine threw a bubble to Lingenfelter and he pulled up and threw to a wide-open Devon Boyles. Boyles was able to scamper to the 18-yard line in which the next play Gregg bounced to the outside and scored another Dragon’s touchdown. This extended their lead to 19-0 after a failed two-point conversion with 1:59 to go in the half.

To start the second half the Dragons wasted no time scoring. After a huge kick return to open, Dragon’s Smith broke loose for a 23 yard run down to the six-yard line. The very next play Gregg caps off the drive with his third touchdown of the night. The extra point was no good giving the Dragon’s a 25-0 lead.
The Dragons would score on their next three possessions. The first was a five-yard pass from Hoenstine to Smith. Averey Black nailed the extra point. The next was Hoenstine to Boyles from five yards out. And finally, Kade Rhule with a one-yard touchdown to put the Dragons up 46-0. The Penn Cambria Panthers wouldn’t give up with 2:46 to go in the game Gavin Harrold rushed in from five yards out making the final score 46-6.
After the game, Gregg was able to talk about his performance and the preparation for their game next week against Richland, “Our line is great, we played great as a team. And we’re gonna prepare like we do for every team. We have to have perfect practices and can’t take anything for granted.” For the Central Dragons, this win pushes them to 5-0 on the year and they will take on the 4-1 Richland Rams next Friday night at Richland. For the Penn Cambria Panthers, this loss puts them at 4-1 on the year and they will look to bounce back next Friday as they take on Central Cambria.
