Heritage Conference-WestPAC Crossover

Northern Cambria(H) (6-3) at Conemaugh Township Indians (W) (6-3)

In a battle of two playoff bound teams the Northern Cambria Colts outlasted the Conemaugh Township Indians 34-20. Both teams started the season with big winning streaks. The Colts won their first four and the Indians their first five. Both teams have struggled in the second half of the season.

The Indians started out quickly when senior quarterback Tanner Shirley hit Ethan Black in stride down the right sideline for a 74 yard touchdown on the games first play. Both Shirley and Black would have big nights, as they would hook up for three touchdowns. The Colts who also like to pass, turned instead to their running game and their offensive line responded. They drove 57 yards in just over two minutes. Colton Paronish would score the first of his three touchdowns. The Indians would than go three and out. The Colts second drive would cover 67 yards in just under three minutes. Senior quarterback Owen Bougher had a 46 yard run and running back Jack Sheredy would cap the drive with a four yard run. Down 12-7 the Indians started to self destruct with negative plays and a pile of penalties. Their third drive..minus yards, penalty, sack, penalty, minus yards and a punt on fourth and thirty seven. The Colts starting at the Indians 34 , looked to be in good shape to expand their lead. But the Indians defense stopped Peyton Myers short of the sticks on fourth down. The Indians started the second quarter running out of the Wildcat formation. But two more penalties led to another punt. A nice punt return by Ty Dumm gave the Colts the ball on the Indians 29. On the next play Bougher ran right up the middle for a touchdown. He would run the two point conversion in, on the next play. It was 20-7 in favor of the Colts. The Indians would than use two fifteen yard penalties on the Colts defense to move into the red zone. Again penalties and negative plays stopped the drive and they punted on fourth and 34 from the Colts 42. Northern Cambria would than go three and out. The Indians would again drive deep into Colts territory before being stuffed on a fourth and one from the Colts eleven. The Indians struggled to run the ball all night. Northern Cambria was 89 yards away with just under three minutes to go in the half. The two minute offense was impressive. Bougher completed three straight passes to Myers and Dumm, all big chunk plays. Paronish would collect the final three yards and it was 28-7. The Indians ended the half with another penalty and a sack. Going to the lockers the game looked over.

The Colts started the second half with a three and out. The Indians would go 67 yards in just under three minutes. The last 33 on another Shirley to Black touchdown pass. On the play Tanner Shirley went over 5000 yards passing for his career. The Colts would lose a fumble on their next possession. The momentum was turning. But the Colts defense would come up with another red zone stop when Shirley’s pass fell incomplete. Again the Colts would go three and out. The Indians would start a 59:yard scoring drive as the third quarter ended. They converted a fourth and six. Minutes later they converted a fourth and two when the Colts jumped offsides. Shirley would than hit Black for his third touchdown. The Indians were only one score down with just under a quarter to play. The Colts would now drive 75 yards to score their only touchdown of the second half. The big play was a 35 yard pass from Bougher to Dumm. Paronish would finish of f the drive. The Indians would have one last chance. They used their last time out before converting another fourth and six. They drove to the Colts one, before they were pushed backed. The Indians committed another penalty and Shirley was intercepted at the five on fourth and goal. Northern Cambria would now turn to its offense line of Brayden Peles, Austin Amsdell, John Zemrose and Dawson Shutty to run out the final six minutes. Final Northern Cambria 34 Conemaugh Township 20
