Homer-Center falls short again! Berlin Wins!
Berlin Brothersvalley Mountaineers (7-2) at Homer-Center Wildcats (7-2)
Last Meeting 10/28/16 Homer-Center 33 @ Berlin 10
Berlin Brothersvalley and Homer-Center battled Friday night in a match up of number two teams from the WestPac and Heritage Conferences. The Wildcats for the second straight week came up one point short at home. The first half was played in a steady rain and the field and footing would effect both offenses.
The Wildcats got the ball first and drove 65 yards in three and a half minutes for the games first score, all on the ground. On fourth and five from the Mountaineers 11, quarterback Cole Mcanulty scramble to his left and found paydirt. The two point conversion failed.

Both teams exchanged punts on their next possessions. The Mountaineers would drive 67 yards in four and a half minutes to score just before the first quarter ended. The big play was a roughing the passer penalty which gave Berlin a first down at the Wildcat 11. Three plays later quarterback Pace Prosser hit Ryan Blubaugh on third and twelve for the tying touchdown. The extra point hit the right upright and was no good.

Homer would go three and out to start the second quarter. Berlin would immediately fumble it back to the Wildcats. Homer-Center would gain only four yards on three plays. On fourth down McAnulty’s pass slipped out of his hand and fall incomplete to the ground. Both teams would than exchange punts again. Berlin’s next drive would cover 79 yards in a minute and 17 seconds. Blubaugh started the drive with a 32 yard reception from Prosser and a defensive personal foul away from the ball gave the Mountaineers 15 more yards. A few plays later Prosser hit Cody Kimmel in the end zone for his second touchdown pass. Connor Montgomery drilled the point after right down the middle. Berlin had a lead it would never give up.

The Wildcats would now go 76 yards in just under two minutes. The big play was a defensive offside on fourth and two from their own 32. Landon Hill would run it in on a third and ten from the 18. Hill was just stopped short on the two point conversion and the Wildcats trailed by one.

A failed onside kick gave the Mountaineers great field position. Berlin would take a couple of shots downfield before taking a knee and going to the half.
Berlin started the second half with a three and out , thanks to two procedure penalties. Mcanulty would get sacked and lose the fumble on the Wildcats first possession on the second half. Homer-Center struggled most of the second half handling the snaps. The offense struggled running the ball and they couldn’t seem to hit the open receiver. Berlin would turn it right back over when senior Anthony Rowland intercepted a defected Prosser pass.

Both teams would exchange punts as the third quarter ended.
Homer-Center had two chances to get back in the game around the 9:30 mark of the fourth quarter. The Wildcats were forced to punt again. The punt bounced off the returners face mask but Berlin was able to recover at their own 30 when a Wildcat slipped down. On the next play the Mountaineers put the ball on the ground again, but once again recovered it. They punted it back to Homer. The Wildcats starting at their own 20 drove into Berlin territory, picking up a fourth and two at their own 40. But with just over three minutes to go Mcanulty’s pass deep down the middle was picked off.

Berlin needing just a first down to win the game, went three and out. They punted it back to Homer. The Wildcats had two minutes and four seconds to go 53 yards. They had one timeout left. They would drive to the Mountaineer 20 where on fourth and six Mcanulty was unable to scramble for a first down. Prosser would take two knees and Berlin had won.
