‘HOUSE CRUISES BY CHESTNUT RIDGE 48-15

After a perfect regular season in which they dominated every game, Coach Donta Green and his Westinghouse Bulldogs seemed like they were primed to never slip up—They scored 3 6A wins, defeated Steel High convincingly on the road and crushed Clairton to open the season.

Their grit was tested in the first quarter by a feisty Chestnut Ridge team that ran an option offense and challenged the Bulldogs defensive patience. Ridge drove 65 yards on their first drive and promising junior QB Nate Whysong scored on a 5 yard keeper and then added the conversion to fire a shot across the bow of Westinghouse, going up 8-0 midway through the first quarter.

Undeterred, Westinghouse answered back with a salvo on their first drive, with Keyshawn Morsillo firing a 53 yd TD pass to Davon Jones. House added the conversion to tie it at 8 just 30 seconds after falling behind.

The high drama continued as Dalton Lemin took the ensuing kickoff back for a Ridge TD, giving them a 15-8 lead with 7:11 remaining in the quarter. On their next drive, Ridge had another opportunity to tack on a score but ‘House got a big stop on fourth down to swing the momentum.

The big hit offense was on display once again as Morsillo hit Sincere Smith for a 49 yd TD pass, giving house the lead at 16-15 with :49 to go in the first.

That would be as close as Chestnut Ridge would be the rest of the way. Kahlil Taylor and Davon Jones added TDs in the second, extending the lead to 30-15 at the half. In the third, Shaun Robinson scored on a run,  Morsillo uncorked a 70 yard missile to Sincere Smith and another short TD pass to Taymir O’Neal to put an exclamation point on the game.

Coach Green was pleased to advance but also mentioned that there were some mistakes to clean up before next week.

Chestnut Ridge finishes the season at 6-5. Westinghouse will advance in the subregional tournament to the final where they will take on Berlin-Brothersvalley next Friday at Somerset Area High School.
