This season hasn’t seen the start that was expected of a Bald Eagle team that returned a large portion of last years talented squad. The Eagle offense sputtered in it’s first two games, scoring just 12 points. The saving grace for head coach Jesse Nagle is “our defense played great the last two games. We held Clearfield to just seven points so we knew that would be key.” That defense held Bellefonte to negative yards and rolled to a 48-0 win.

In all, the Eagle forced seven turnovers on the night, and that performance sparked the BEA offense.  Carson Nagle threw for 323 yards, hitting Kahale Burns, who finished with 224 yards receiving, twice for scores in the second half including a 78 yard catch. Burns spent all night making Bellefonte defenders miss with some nice moves. No to be outdone, the run game put 124-yards on the ground, 63 of which came from Tre Greene who scored the games first td.

“I think in the first two games we weren’t really our aggressive selves. We talked to the coaches and said we need to spread the field. Our kids did that tonight and I’m very proud of them,” said Bald Eagle coach Jesse Nagle. Aggressive they were. A succussful onside kick gave BEA another shot with good field position to start but the drive ended with a missed field goal. The Eagle defense stood tall and forced a punt but a penalty moved the ball back to the 29 of BEA. Twelve plays later Nagle hit Wyatt Spackman for a 12 yard score to open the floodgates in the second quarter. Nagle then found Camron Watkins who went 30 yards, plowing into the endzone to make it 21-0 Eagles with 6:37 left in the half.

BEA tacked on another running td by Tre Greene to make it a 28-0 Eagle lead. Following an exchange of interceptions, it looked as though BEA would run the clock out after being pinned on their own 11 but an 11 yard run by Greene was followed up by an electrifying catch and run from Burns who again made players miss then sprinted 78 yards to make it a 35-0 halftime lead. To start the third quarter Nagle again found Burns, this time it went for 25 yards after Burns once again shifted and juked his way for a 53 yard gain on the previous pass.

A 30-yard interception by Snyder put BEA up 48-0 to close out the scoring

For Bellefonte, they’ll look for their first win of the year next week but it’ll be tough as they travel to 3-0 Tyrone. BEA has a huge game against 3-0 Penns Valley next Friday.
