0Turnovers can change the makeup of a game. The Mounties turned the ball over 3 times, twice in the first half. Bald Eagle area scored after each turnover. As a matter of fact, BEA scored on their first 4 possessions of the game, led by quarterback Carson Nagle who was 22of 28 for 301 yards with 4 touchdown passes. He also ran one in for a score leading the Eagles to a 42-20 win.

“We definitely want to continue to get better defensively. We knew they were a good football team coming in” said BEA head coach Jesse Nagle. “We gave up the one defensive touchdown with the first team in so we have to fix some things. Offensively we took what they gave us. They gave us throwing the ball so we took that. As for the turnovers, Nagle was happy with the results. “Last two weeks we weren’t good with that. We thought we had to clean that up and we did.”

BEA jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead with a 6 play drive that accounted for 70 yards. The first td pass of the game didn’t come from Nagle. On first down at the seven, Nagle tossed the ball to Cam Watkins who in turn hit a wide open Kahale Burns in the endzone. The kick was good.

The Eagle defense held P-O to a three and out, forcing a punt. After a holding call set the Eagles back to their 29, Burns went to work again hitting Gavin Burns for 15 yards, then a pass interference call moved them to the 29 of the Mounties. It took 8 more plays to get those 29 yards. Nagle stumbled his way to the edge and got into the endzone for the one yard score making 14-0 with 3:24 left in the first quarter.

On the ensuing drive, the Mounties committed their first turnover giving the ball to the Eagles at the 50. Nagle took a sack on the first play, then he picked apart the Mountie defense with short passes, converting fourth down twice, the second conversion was a 28 yard td pass to Kahale Burns, his first of three td receptions for the night. That put BEA up 21-0 with 9:14 to play in the second quarter.

A little controversy ensued on the very next P-O play. The Mounties lined up and ran a play. It looked like the ground forced a fumble, but the referees disagreed and BEA was in business at the Mountie 26. Nagle hit Cameron Dubbs for his second touchdown pass of the night to make it 28-0 Eagles.

Philipsburg then put together a nice 80 yard scoring drive, highlighted with a monster run right up the gut by Colton Chapman for a 35 yard scoring strike.

With the score 28-6 and the Mounties showing signs of life on offense, the defense got their first stop of the night. But that’s where the intensity ended for the Mounties. BEA also made a stop then proceeded to march 83 yards on the arm of Nagle. He completed that drive with a 28 yard td strike to Kahale Burns.

“We start like 6-7 sophomores, it’s a growing process” said Mounties head coach Jeff Vrooman. “We gotta pick up the intensity, I wasn’t happy with that in the first half. They made plays, we were able to get pressure on the quarterback at time so I was happy with that”.

BEA came out and stopped the Mounties on their first drive of the half, then they invoked the running clock with a 22 yard td pass to Burns for his third of the evening.

The Mounties scored two more times in the fourth quarter, a 38 yard run by Sam MacDonald and a 10 yard run by Parker Lamb.

BEA hosts the rival across the bridge, Bellefonte, for the Curtin Bowl (someone please email me and tell me the origins) and P-O plays winless Bellwood-Antis.
