The BG Marauders came out victorious against Redbank Valley on Thursday, remaining undefeated in the playoffs and improving their record to 11-4. However, none of that is important, because the Marauders have won the single A state championship for the 4th time in 7 years!
Throughout the game, it became a battle in the trenches, with the rushing attack being the main focus of the Marauders offense. Draining clock while driving down the field became an advantage for the Marauders, with RB Cooper Rother and QB Karson Kiesewetter scoring rushing touchdowns in the game. The score was 7-0 at the half.
Coming out of halftime, Redbank Valley took advantage of a BG turnover, and tied the game up. BG found a way to fire back, throwing a surprise pass to TE Anthony Cioffari for a huge touchdown. Valley fired back with their own passing touchdown, making the score 14-14.
However, the BG would simply not be denied, and they punched the ball in again, making the score 21-14. Valley had to score to remain in the game, and only had a few minutes to do so. Guilfoyles defense, which had a ferocious pass rush all day, thanks to Sante Bambocci who had over 3 sacks, and others such as Colin Butler and PJ Pullock. Guilfoyle had them at a tough position, and Karson Kiesewetter came up with the game sealing interception.
With that, the 2021 season comes to an end. Shoutout to BG seniors Vincent Cioffari, Haiden Garner, Colin Butler, Anthony Edwards, Aiden Bender, Conner Stayer, Christian Fochler, Joe Meintel, Patrick Reilly, PJ Pullock, Collin Campbell, and Deven Wyandt on fantastic high school careers. Their names, and along with the other names on this team will go down as legends, and they are much deserving of the honor to be called state champions.
