Portage @ Penns Manor

#5 Portage (7-4) will travel to #1 Penns Manor (10-1) in a D6A Semifinal game.  This game is a rematch from a regular season game that took place at Portage on 10/7.  Penns Manor won this game 55-28.  Penns Manor jumped out to a 20-6 lead in the first quarter and then scored 21 in the 4th to win big over Portage.  Penns Manor ran for 429 yards against Portage.  Penns Manor’s Senior QB Max Hill ran for 173 yards with 3 TDs on 18 carries in this game.  Senior FB Mark Bagley ran for 131 yards with 2 TDs on 8 carries.  Junior WR/LB Carter Smith had 2 receptions for 54 yards and 2 TDs and led the team on defense with 14 tackles.  Senior DB Eric Baum had 2 INTs against Portage.  Portage Senior QB Andrew Miko ws 3-7 for 121 yards with 2 TDs and 2 INTs in this game.  Senior RB Isaac Jubina had 104 yards and 1 TD on 15 carries.  Sophomore WR Bode Layo had 2 receptions for 105 yards and 2 TDs for Portage.

Last Friday, Penns Manor beat #8 Glendale 21-7 at home.  Penns Manor jumped out to a 21-0 in the second quarter and held off Glendale despite a sloppy second half.  Glendale held Hill to only 52 yards on the ground.  Hill appeared to get injured early the game and was limping most of the game.  Senior RB Justin Marshall was also injured twice and wasn’t able to finish the game.  Senior RB Ashton Courvina had a big day with 122 yards, half of those were on one 65 yard run.  Check out Greg Ricupero’s game recap here: Comets get scare from Vikings .

Portage beat #4 Juniata Valley 20-6 last Friday at Juniata Valley.  Portage held a slim lead at the half (7-6), but the Portage defense came up big and held Juniata Valley scoreless in the second half.  QB Miko had a big day rushing, for Portage, with 188 yards on 29 carries.

The keys to this semifinal game for Penns Manor will be the health of Hill and Marshall and the ability to shake off the sloppy second half play from last Friday.

The keys to the game for Portage will be the ability to stop the run and force Penns Manor into mistakes like Glendale did.
