District VI PIAA Football Preseason Review “The Road to Mansion Park” Part II  (Part I)

There are three main leagues or conferences within one hour of my house. The Heritage Conference(HC), the West PAC(WP) and the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference(LH). I will cover these leagues and their teams in Part III. Now for the rest of the teams.

3A -Five Teams. Penn Cambria(LH) & Westmont(LH) The other three teams all play in the Mountain League.

1.Central(4-7) I look for the Scarlet Dragons to rebound from a rare subpar season. They will play five of their first six games on the road before closing with four straight home games. Central will be moving to the Laurel Highlands next year.
2.Huntingon(5-6) The Bearcats will need to replace the majority of their starters. But play the majority of their tougher opposition at home.
3.Tyrone(2-8) The Golden Eagles will return 13 seniors lead by senior quarterback Brandon Lucas. Lucas passed for over 1200 yards and led Tyrone in rushing last year.

2A – 13 Teams Cambria Heights(LH), Central Cambria(LH), Forest Hills(LH), Marion Center(HC), Northern Cambria(HC) & Richland (LH)
Ligonier Valley who dominated the Heritage Conference has moved on to the WPIAL.

1.Bellwood Antis(11-1) The Blue Devils are my favorite to win the Inter-County Conference. They got most of their skill players returning, but need to find a new quarterback.
2.Bald Eagle(11-4) It will be hard for the Eagles to match last years results, when they made the final four in 3A. It will be tough with five of their last six on the road. BA will need to replace a lot and will probably finished in the middle of the tough Mountain League.
3.Penns Valley(10-2) The Rams will also be rebuilding in the Mountain League. Penns Valley will have trouble matching the 46 points per game they averaged last year.
4.Southern Huntingdon(4-6) The Rockets hope to improve on last years team which qualified for the playoffs. First year coach Aaron Batzel will need to find a quarterback to go with a solid core of returning starters.
5.Mount Union(3-7) The Trojans will hope to build on a two game winning streak they had to finish last year. All hopes rest on new starting quarterback junior Dayvon Wilson.
6.Philipsburg-Osceola(1-9) The Mounties numbers appear to be up and hopefully they will be able to play some football. Jeff Vroman returns for his second tenure as head coach. P-O will be hard pressed not to finished at the bottom of the Mountain League.

1A – 20 Teams Bishop Carroll(HC), Bishop Guilfoyle(LH), Bishop McCort(LH),Blacklick Valley(WP),Blairsville(HC), Conemaugh Valley(WP), Ferndale(WP), Homer Center(HC), Penns Manor(HC),
Portage(WP), Purchase Line(HC), Saltsburg(HC), United(HC), West Shamokin(HC)

1.Juniata Valley(10-3) The Green Hornets have played in the past two district championships. They will compete with Bellwood Antis for the Inter-County Conference title. Senior back Gabe Bower will return to lead the offense(700 rushing, 500 receiving last year).
2.Claysburg-Kimmel(9-4) The Bulldogs should continue their winning ways. Senior quarterback Cory Chamberlain will led the offense for the third straight year. They should finish among the top teams in the Inter-County Conference.
2.Glendale(5-6) The Vikings should finish in the middle of the pack in the ICC. Two way starter Colt Bickford(6’6” 320) will anchor both lines.
4.Moshannon Valley(2-8) The Black Knights will be hard pressed to compete in the ICC. They have only five seniors and gave up almost 40 points per game.
3.West Branch(2-8) The Warriors are a big question mark in the ICC. Two years ago they had an 1800 yard rusher and last year they had a 2000 yard passer. What will 2020 bring?
4.Williamsburg(0-10) The Blue Pirates enter the season with a 20 game losing streak. These kids need a win. I think they will get their win either in week one or towards the end of the season when they have back to back home games.
