Heritage Conference Crossover Matchup

United Valley Lions (3-6) at Conemaugh Valley Bluejays (2-6)

The United Valley Lions closed an era for the Conemaugh Valley BlueJays with a 41-22 victory. It was the final game of the season for both teams. The BlueJays will join the Heritage Conference starting next year as the WestPac comes to an end for football. The BlueJays will also be getting lights. It’s the end of Saturday afternoon football in Johnstown. In the last few years, Ferndale, Westmont and now CV have ended their Saturday football. Ferndale co-oped with CV and Westmont added lights and turf this year. I will have to find another place to go on Saturdays.

The first half saw six touchdowns out of a total of eight possessions. The BlueJays got the first score. They went 65 yards in four plays, the final 49 on a Tommy Stiffler run. The Blue Jays went for two and converted. The Lions answered right back after a failed onside kick attempt. They went 48 yards in just under six minutes. Issac Worthington hit Zack Travis for the touchdown. Evan McAnulty’s extra point made it 8-7 Blue Jays. CV went sixty yards on their next possession using up the rest of the first quarter and scoring on the first play of the second quarter. Stiffler scored his second touchdown of the day and again CV converted the two pointer. The Lions second possession was a three minute 56 yard touchdown  drive. Alex Reba capped the drive with a 12 yard touchdown run. It was 16-14 after the extra point. The BlueJays third possession took over five minutes off the clock and picked up 43 yards. CV attempted their first two passes. The first was incomplete and Adam Jasper was sacked on the second one. Both passes led to fourth down attempts. CV converted a fourth and three from their own 38 when the Lions jumped offside. But on fourth and eight from the Lions 26, the Blue Jays were stuffed. The Lions would than go 75 yards in just under two minutes for their first lead of the day. Quarterback Issac Worthington going the last 52 yards. The Lions defense than came up big forcing a three and out. The Lions used two timeouts to get the ball back with 30.2 seconds at the Blue Jays 42. Twenty one seconds later Worthington hit a wide open Reba for the Lions fourth first half touchdown.

The Lions went three and out on their first possession of the second half. The Blue Jays were able to covert one forth down before punting it back to the Lions. The Lion’s second possession was a 77 yard, five plus minute scoring drive. Worthington sneaking it over from a yard out to make it 34-16. The Blue Jays went three and out and punted as the fourth quarter started. This time the Lions would go 74 yards in just under three minutes. Caden McCully scoring the touchdown after sweeping around the right end. CV would answer with a 79 yard drive capped by a Eli Darr touchdown. The Lions JV’s would run the last six minutes and 41 seconds off the clock. Final United Valley 41 Conemaugh Valley 22
