Heritage Conference Week#2
United Lions @ Bishop Carroll Huskies

When I’m picking what game I want to go to I usually look for a competitive game instead of a particular team. United and Bishop Carroll are both young teams and will likely have some growing pains this year. Both teams came into the game, off of blow out losses. I expected a close game and I wasn’t disappointed. The crowd situation was the same as last week with very few fans allowed. The halftime show was Bishop Carroll’s homecoming court.

Most of the game was played in the middle of the field. Both teams struggled to sustain their drives. Both teams had only a couple chances to score. Both teams committed critical penalties. There were a lot of negative plays. The offenses would get 1 or 2 first downs then get tackled for a loss or commit a penalty to kill the drive. The game moved at a good pace considering all the miscues. It was over in just over 2 hours.

The teams played the whole first quarter exchanging punts and fighting for every inch of field position.
United put together the games only scoring drive to start the second quarter. They drove to the Husky 13 before being pushed back. On 4th down and 17 from the Bishop Carroll 20 senior quarterback Eli Clevenger rolled right and threw to the front of the end zone by the pylon. Junior receiver Jacob Boring made a great catch just inside the end zone. The duo then hooked up on the two point conversion and United led 8-0 with 6:45 to go in the half. Bishop Carroll’s best drive stalled at the Lions 30. On 4th down and 23 sophomore quarterback Johnny Golden hit senior receiver Ryan Bohrer for twenty yards to the Lion 10 and their best chance of the first half died.

The third quarter was a lot like the first quarter as both teams struggled to gain field position. Bishop Carroll’s best opportunity of the second half came midway thru the 4th quarter. They converted two 4th and long situations. The first fourth down was gained due to a defensive pass interference. Minutes later Ryan Bohrer made a great catch to convert another 4th down. The Huskies had first and goal from the Lion 7 yard line with just over three minutes left. Three plays later, BC had loss 7 yards and half of the time. On 4th and goal from the 14, Golden’s pass fell incomplete in the back of the end zone. United went three and out and BC used all its timeouts to preserve the clock. The Huskies got the ball back with 26 seconds and 52 yards to go. Golden’s first pass was intercepted by Caden McCully. United then took a knee and the game was over.

United played freshmen Isaac Worthington at quarterback for the entire second half and played a lot of underclassmen at critical times. Coach Marabito rested star players Clevenger and Hunter Cameron through out the second half saving them for defense and certain offensive situations. These should pay big dividends next year and the year after.
