Mansion Park Altoona, Pa : The Central Scarlet Dragons won their third straight District 6 AAA Championship title, and, for the second consecutive year, knocked out the gritty Penn Cambria Panthers. The game had two of the best quarterbacks in the state competing for the title. It would be in this game when senior Jeff Hoenstine of Central proves that he is the best. Hoenstine was a machine of all facets of the game and set the tone in the opening kickoff when he made the opening tackle on a short run. Senior Garret Harrold of Penn Cambria made an impressive opening drive, and it initially looked as if the team could quickly score, but Central’s defense would make major plays and deny the Panthers of scoring.

Central scored first when Hoenstine took it in himself on a 16yrd run. Next possession, he broke the state career passing touchdown record on a pass to Dustin Metzger from 18 yards out. Penn Cambria would finally get on the board late in the second quarter when Garret Harrold hit his younger brother Gavin with a pass right at the goal line. The Panthers could not convert the extra point and would not find the endzone for the rest of the game.
Central scored two more times in the 3rd and once in the 4th. Hoenstine would finish the game with 131 rushing yards, 3 touchdowns and passed for 217 yards. Hoenstine made his presence known on the other side of the ball where he led his team in tackles with 8 solo tackles, a sack and one of the 4 interceptions thrown by Harrold.
The Panthers were unable to play like they did in week 3 when they beat the Scarlet Dragons 42-28. In that meeting, Harrold passed for 232 yards compared to Hoenstine’s 293. However, the Panthers’ ground game was firing on all cylinders when senior Zach Grove rushed for 131 yards alone. Central total rushing was only 63 total yards. Garrett Harrold also rushed for 114 yards. Grove finished the game at Mansion Park with only 87 yards.
The 10-2 Central Scarlet Dragons will meet up with The 8-2 Clearfield Bison’s on Friday, November 18th at 7pm. Location unknown
