The night started with United Valley’s senior night celebration and a recognition of the 1998 United football team who won the D6 championship.

But the night ended with River Valley celebrating as they overcame a sloppy and mistake filled first half and held off previously unbeaten United Valley 13-6.  Snapping United Valley’s 11 game win streak that started last year.

United Valley started the game with a nice opening drive but stalled inside the River Valley 15.  United Valley’s Collin Nedrich kicked a 25-yard FG.  On River Valley’s first play the snap sailed over River Valley QB Luke Woodring’s head and United Valley recovered.  River Valley’s defense came up big to stop United’s Valley early momentum.  The wet conditions starting to play a major factor with both teams fumbling the ball and slipping on the wet field.

Late in the second quarter, United Valley put together a nice drive but stalled out inside the River Valley 15 once again.  United Valley’s Collin Nedrich booted a 25-yard FG to put United Valley up 6-0.  That score held until halftime.

The second half featured more of the sloppy play.  Then, United Valley starting to put together a nice drive, in the middle of the 3rd quarter, with the highlight being Caden McCully’s 49-yard run.  That run put Caden over 100 yards for the game and over 1,000 yards for the season.  That celebration was short lived because a bad snap on the next play was recovered by River Valley. River Valley then went 3 and out, and United Valley fumbled their next play back to River Valley.  River Valley finally put together a nice drive with River Valley’s Gavin Burkhart running in from 13 yards out and with the PAT River Valley went up 7-6.

River Valley put together another nice time-consuming drive that took about 7 minutes off the clock.  This drive featured some hard running by River Valley’s Burkhart.  River Valley’s Samuel Yanits took it in from the 5 yard line.  The PAT was blocked to make the score 13-6 with about 3:30 left in the game.  United Valley drove to near mid-field but a 4th and 13 pass fell incomplete.  River Valley took over and ran out the remaining 1:30 to knock off United Valley.

United Valley (8-1) will play at Conemaugh Township (0-9) next Friday.  United Valley will win the Heritage Conference with a win next week.  River Valley (7-2) will play at Portage (3-6) next week.
