STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – D’Antae Sheffey may be a freshman, but you wouldn’t know it from watching him as he ran for three touchdowns in a 45-3 win for State College over Hollidaysburg.

The Little Lions got on the board first with a field goal from Kajetan Kaszubowski, and followed that up with a touchdown on the next drive after Owen Yerka found Finn Furmanek for a 23-yard score.

Furmanek primarily operates as the quarterback for this State College offense, but there are times where he is asked to play receiver as well and Owen Yerka steps in to run the offense.

“We trust both of those kids, sometimes it’s that one of our wideouts gets tired so Finn goes in there,” State College Head Coach Matt Lintal said. “We view them both as starting quarterbacks and Finn as a starting receiver, so it just gives our offense some flexibility. We call the offense the same regardless, so it makes it a lot of fun.”

Next up to join the party was D’Antae Sheffey, who scored the first of his three touchdowns on a one-yard plunge to make it 17-0 in the first quarter.

After a Hollidaysburg field goal, Finn Furmanek and the Little Lions offense ran a double reverse flea flicker where he hit Michael Gaul for a gain of 46 down inside the Hollidaysburg three-yard line. Furmanek would find Donte Nastasi in the end zone for a score to finish the drive and take a 23-3 (not 23-2) lead.

The rest of the game was the D’Antae Sheffey show, as he added a ten-yard touchdown followed by a 46-yard score to open the floodgates and put State College up 38-3.

“He’s just a tremendous athlete. For a freshman to come in here with the football IQ that he has and obviously the athleticism, it’s more than just God given,” Lintal said. “He understands the game, he comes out here and plays, and gives a lot of credit to his teammates.”

Not to be lost in the mix, the State College defense was outstanding in this win as well. They allowed just a field goal to Hollidaysburg and dominated the Golden Tigers offensive line consistently.

“We’re super proud of the way our defense is playing, they’re playing really tough physical football,” Lintal said. “Our defensive coordinator Mark Baney and his staff are getting our kids prepared each and every week so we couldn’t be more proud of them.”

Matt Wall added a late rushing touchdown for State College, who now sits at 3-0 on the year after this 45-3 win.

State College is set to begin Mid-Penn Commonwealth conference play next Friday night at Altoona. For Coach Lintal and his squad, they are never satisfied even after a win like this as they look to make it back to the State Semi-Finals and potentially even further.

“We gotta clean up the penalties,” Lintal said. There was a lot of controllable stuff there that in a tighter game is going to get you beat, so we gotta clean up that, maintain our level of intensity from first play to last regardless of the scoreboard and that’s something we can improve upon.”
