Tyrone Bombs Rams

Utilizing an unstoppable passing attack, the Tyrone Golden Eagles bombed the Penns Valley Rams 35-7 in a game played at Tyrone this evening.

Penns Valley received the opening kickoff, and on the first play from scrimmage, Ty Watson broke through a hole and raced 42-yards to set the Rams up on the Tyrone 25-yard line, but the drive stalled and Penns Valley turned the ball over on downs at the Tyrone 18-yard line. Following a couple of penalties, Tyrone faced a third and eighteen at their own 10-yard line, but in what would become a pattern throughout the evening, the Rams could not get off the field on third-and-long. Quarterback, Ashton Walk connected with Eli Woomer for 27-yards for a big first down. Two plays later, on third-and-eight, Walk hooked up with Andrew Weaver for 54-yards to set the Golden Eagles up inside the Ram 5-yard line. On second down, Brady Ronan ran it in from the two. The conversion put Tyrone up 7-0 with 5:40 remaining in the first quarter.

On Tyrone’s next possession they would face a third-and thirteen, this time Walk would hit Weaver for a 46-yard touchdown pass. Following the conversion, Tyrone led 14-0 with 2:24 remaining in the first quarter.

After another unsuccessful Ram drive, Tyrone would have the ball deep in their own territory at the start of the second quarter. From their own 17-yard line, Walk would hit a streaking Weaver in stride for an 87-yard touchdown. The conversion made it 21-0 just fifteen seconds into the second quarter.

The Ram offense continued to sputter, but their defense was finally able to keep Tyrone out of the end zone and with 2:49 remaining in the half, the Rams recovered a muffed punt and took possession on the Tyrone 36-yard line with a golden opportunity to get back in the game. Following a couple of Watson runs for a first down, it looked like the Rams were in business. Jackson Romig then hit John Meyer for a nice gain, but an ineligible man down field call wiped out the play and the drive ended abruptly when an errant snap went over the head of Romig;  Tyrone recovered on their own 42-yard line with thirty-nine seconds remaining in the half. Following a 14-yard Walk scramble, he would hit Woomer one play later for a 43-yard touchdown pass to put Tyrone up 28-0 at halftime.

Tyrone would receive the second half kickoff and on third-and-seven, Walk hit Ronan with a perfectly executed screen pass and Ronan raced down the sideline for a 57-yard touchdown. The extra point would make it 35-0 and less than a minute into the third quarter, there would be a running clock for the remainder of the game.

The rest of the second half would be scoreless except for the lone Ram touchdown, which would come on a 41-yard Watson touchdown run against the Tyrone reserves with 4:26 remaining in the game.

Penns Valley actually did a decent job defending the run, but Ashton Walk was outstanding all night long and the Rams had no answers for the speed of Eli Woomer and Andrew Weaver who spent the evening running behind the Ram secondary. Penns Valley had Tyrone in third-and-long all night and just could not get off the field.

Penns Valley clearly misses the services of two of their most explosive playmakers in Danin Kerstetter and Fletcher Ironside. Ty Watson, John Meyer, and Jackson Romig are great players, but opposing defenses are doing an outstanding job of limiting their opportunities.

Penns Valley and Tyrone will each close out the regular season at home next week. Penns Valley will play Forest Hills. Tyrone’s opponent has yet to be determined.
