What does your offense need to improve on from last year?
We will be very inexperienced on offense, having graduated 8 starters, including the program’s all-time leading passer in Luke Thomas. How well the offensive unit can gel and execute and how quickly someone takes command of the QB position with confidence will be key. We are developing more depth along the offensive line which is also a positive moving into the season.
What does your defense need to improve on from last year
Defensively, we will again be very inexperience, having graduated 11 guys who started more than 2 games, including the Big 8 Conference Defensive Player of the Year in Axel Kovalchick. How disciplined and physical we can be with young bodies will determine our success.
What are your overall thoughts on this years team?
We will be very young and inexperienced coming into the season, having graduated 17 Seniors a year ago. We will be led on both sides of the ball by Senior Malik Turner, who was an All Conference Selection last season. It should be exciting to watch the young guys develop as the season progresses. Having a full off-season under a new coaching staff and a second season in the new schemes, should be a positive.
