2020 RECAP
It’s always a good season when you go to the playoffs, but McKeesport made it unique. In the final week of the regular season, McKeesport shocked the state by upsetting the Thomas Jefferson Jaguars on their home turf. A statement that the unbeaten can always be toppled. McKeesport lost the following week to Plum, but bring back speed and athleticism from a team that lacked it at the beginning of the 2020 season.
OFFENSE
Terrance Glenn, Mike Williams and CALEB REIST all split time at QB during the 2020 season but by Week 4 Matt Martin had his man. REIST returns heading the acclaimed triple option offense that the WPIAL community knows and loves so well. Assad Robinson will be gone, meaning a young and athletic youth movement will be forced to take the helm led by KANYE Thompson along with youngsters in KEYSHAWN HUMPHRIES and JAHMIL PERRYMAN.
DEFENSE
McKeesport has always been known as having a staunch difficult defense. This season could prove interesting with both Collin Lyons and Catrell Leggett graduating, meaning there’s room for growth up front. Terrance Glenn will also be hard to replace but the Tigers hope that COLIN FREDERICK SCHARITTER is up for the challenge.
OVERVIEW
Never count out the Tigers. Even after getting shut out at home to begin the season by Belle Vernon, the McKeesport Tigers found their QB, and slowly battled back and beat Thomas Jefferson to come in as a wildcard. The triple option was hit or miss against 4A defenses and some weeks the offense looked completely putrid. If the offense can get humming again like they were at the end of 2019, McKeesport could be a very dangerous team. If the offense struggles to stay on the field like last year, the Tigers might lose a lot of the games that they won by close margins a year ago. The Tigers look like they could be a dangerous team near the end of the year, playing both the Leopards and Jaguars to end the season, however there’s still significant work to be done.
